Learning CSS

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

St Paul Church Ruins, MacaoI have nothing else to do these days but to do a little bit of changing my header here and there, text fonts, colors and a simple use of CSS. I pulled out a pretty surprising outcome when I found out that CSS is not afterall like a hardcandy lollipop to lick.

If you notice, this post is now using CSS style that I think was fun to do. I learned a little bit of tweaking a magazine-looking style post like the ones we see from some newspaper or magazine blogs. This, I thought was a fantastic idea to create simple CSS within a post. I am calling it “classes” or stylesheet. A stylesheet is a collection of formatting attributes meant to be applied to a paragraph, a group of characters, or page elements such as this one, a ‘dropcap’ which eventually gives a single capital letter on the first word (see the first capital letter on this post).

Also, I’ve used a ‘pullout’ classes effect which replaces the usual blockquote, hi guys, this is an example of a pullout effect… to highlight a quote or anything you like to write to capture your readers attention. Whatever you like, either way it works. And, no you don’t have to know CSS to use this one. But at least I have harcoded the css code into my header to make it more ‘atuomatic’ and voila!

If you haven’t noticed, I also created a simple CSS header/banner with the navigation menu. See that? I’d been thinking of changing it to an image header but for now it looks perfect as I still need to learn how to use my Photoshop.

This THEME is very light - and I am loving it, less clutter, simple yet elegant. You know that I’d keep changing themes because for me, a header functionality makes a blog more standout because it’s the first thing you see when you’re visiting a blog, except of course, if the blog has a new entry.

What makes this more interesting is that I can now add small images with a ‘thinborder’ to give more appeal to the whole entry. It’s very much like I have spent at least less than 30minutes to create this CSS style and I thought, it pays you off once you really give it a try and makes mistakes.

Great deal, innit?

POSTSCRIPTS: In web development, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can be applied to any kind of XML document, including SVG and XUL.

Oh plus I like the “magazine feel” into your blog entry. Pro talaga!

Diane, you know what, in reality I was never a risk taker - I always feel that if I tried and didn’t do it right, I’d be disappointed for the entire week. Buti na lang, ok naman.

Remember the days when most of us create websites and learn html’s? That’s exactly the same thing, medyo mahirap nga lang yung hardcoding the codes to fit into the theme.

Ron, it takes patience I think to learn something that I wouldn’t normally do but should anyway because most of the time, when I am “down and distracted”, I’ve had to find ways to get rid of that thoughts so that my mind would function again.

‘ng labo ata… in other words, “ang galeng ko din pala”, hahaha.

Whoa, that’s awesome. I don’t think I could ever discipline myself to learn CSS.

Wendy, no it’s fun actually, like walking in the park enjoying a cotton candy on a stick, ya’know that feeling?

Asha, you can hire me for free so you don’t have to stay late creeping out in the dark just to learn this stuff and screw up your dashboard too, hehehe.
