Hey, how about jelly beans?

March 15, 08

Just when you thought flu season was over.

On The News: All kindergartens and junior schools in Hong Kong have closed early for their Easter holiday, after a flu-like illness killed three children.

The Education Bureau described the move as a “precautionary measure”. More than 30 students from one school have showed flu-like symptoms and three children have died from apparently similar illnesses in recent weeks. Experts are investigating a link to either bird flu or Sars, a respiratory disease that hit Hong Kong in 2003.

But the good news is, I’ve found a medicine that can probably kill these flu virus. I bought a pack of Jelly Belly beans (assorted flavours) candy while at the cinema - watching a good suspense-thriller from Spain about a woman who discovers dark secrets hidden within her cherished childhood home, The Orphanage, where human longing meets the unknown and unknowable - just in case my immune system drops down to zero level.

While the city was far from showing the sort of panic seen during the SARS outbreak, shops reported fast sales of medical face masks and antiseptic. In the crowded subway, some people were seen wearing masks, which reminds me of the SARS days when millions of people in Hong Kong wore masks when venturing outdoors.

These little jelly beans is a good source of Vitamin C (insert: diabetic people’s favourite dessert) which is an easiest way to boost energy when feeling run-down and listless. Absolutely sweet.

Stay healthy people.

Glad to know your little girl has recovered, mahirap sa mga bata ang magkasakit. I know di naman sya SARS (finger crossed). Ewan ko ba laging tinatamaan ang HK ng ganito, most of the people here gets really really paranoid. And one thing you know, LV shops might come up with the idea of selling masks with the big LOGO in it - naku mas magkakagulo. I want alcogel from BENCH.
2008-03-20 18:37:08

ooh i love bench’s alcogel too. i have the kiwi scented one :) LV na mask? talaga nga naman, ang mga HKongers, may sakit na, stylish pa rin. hehe.

Ris, crazy ain’t it? I think the idea was to keep things “fun” and not totally making you feel isolated while wearing the medical-mask in a crowded area. Unfortunately, we don’t have BENCH here. I need to order that pala.

Oh hey, do you watch the idol? Can you record the song that Ramiele sung during The Beatles week, yung “In My Life”. I think singsnap.com has the Bette Midler version. I thought she sang it really good, naka connect yung kanta sa akin (nax). TY in advance.

El orfantao, is the most seen spanish film ever. I haven’t seen it but is because I’m not into scary movies. I hope you like it.

I enjoyed it, I love suspense thriller movie. The acting was terrific and what I like about this are the scenes in which the director proves that he’s indeed good at making people scream - creepy, but unexpected. I think foreigners are the only ones actually making scary movies these days - Spain, Mexico, Korea, Japan and even the French and I can’t wait to watch the re-make of the Thailand’s scary movie “Shutter” coming this few months.

Go Watch it.

Oh no K! not another SAR’s epidemic. I remember those days that we couldn’t even meet up which is the only thing we look forward to at the end of the week…our sinigang nights or impromtu parties at isay’s place. Well, I hope it’s just a common flu. take care!

K

Masel, I hope so too. It’s funny to think that 5 years later, the flu/panic attack has once again paralyzed this little city. It’s not that BIG but syempre, paranoid na ang mga HKers. Kaya pa ng hugas ng kamay at uminom ng gamot.

Anyways, remember Lorna? Not the actress - the Lorna who babysits most of you (from Treena, Karen, Isay, Ron) came to visit me the other day looking for (not part time) a room-for-rent. Guess what, (aside from being sexually active - she proudly said that) she asked about you, sabi ko ‘mayaman ka na dahil you are now in the States’ and showed me the wallet (Esprit) you gave her, buhay pa daw at lucky wallet daw yun. She makes tampo to Isay (ISAY: nag padala daw sya ng Xmas card, many years back, wala daw reply) syempre making patawa at ayun, si Lorna pa rin, maliit pa rin at laging conscious sa kanyang aura. Sabi ko… “nag hahanap ka ba ng room for rent para may privacy kayo ng papa mo”? Sabi nya..”pano mo alam”? Sabi ko, “ayan o, namumutla ka na”. Winter daw kasi.

Asus, miss nya kayo, just so you know.

hay naku ang Lorna buhay pa! dapat pala hindi ko na binigay yung wallet lucky pala sya he he! seriously, I do miss HK a lot because of you, soy, bobbit, lorna and everything else except SARS. we had lot of good memories di ba? i promise myself that if i’ll ever go to back to phils, HK will be a stopover. take care K!

Masel, actually, bulky na yung wallet, puno ng phonecard - she said, di nya kayang bumili ng branded (unless, fake oks lang daw) which I think, nag-pa-awa na naman si Lorna.

When are you coming to visit? Malaki na sina Tobit, Soyee on the other hand are into parenting - merong yaya but you know how much she adores the kids, ang galeng mag alaga ng Nanay. I haven’t visited their new pad at Gold Coast, malayo for me (just avoiding the invitation from staying over, nakakahiya). Pero, we still hang out once in a while. When I have time to walk around I’d pick her up at the office at IFC. We miss you, Masel.

You know what rocks as well when you’re sick? Home-made orange juice and a nice, warm bowl of soup with chili in it which helps :)
