Happiness is like a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself

February 18, 08

Money comes, money goes. Spend it and you’d be feeling a little extravagant wearing a new shoes. Save it and you’d be insane all day thinking what you’re going to do with it. I mean, hearing that money doesn’t buy happiness won’t be the most surprising thing you hear today, but you might be surprised to learn that there is a cutoff for the money-equals-happiness equation lying somewhere for some people.

It’s weird that sometimes whenever you have the lack of funds, there are many things you’d wish you’ve had. And when you finally got the money, you seemed so much overwhelmed that you end up getting a dozen of stuff in your hands, pay them in the counter and leaves you chronically on the edge that you could have chosen a better one than you did.

Let’s buy stuff!

Truth is, I am a frustrated consumer. Everytime I dig for a perfect shaving kit, often I ended up buying the expensive ones and nothing happens. I still get skin burns, my skin is so dry it would bleed everytime I’d use a regular blade razors. I asked this sales staff at Aeosop in Lane Crawford shop the other day and she suggested that a perfect razors doesn’t need to be too cheap nor expensive. Needless to say, a perfect shave needs a perfect product. I was extremely surprised that most branded stores these days has now variety of skin care products than it was a few years ago. Some of these shops has now extended products of their fragrances from head to toe.

I have always been into a clean lifestyle and wanted to find personal care products to go with that philosophy. But even simple products such as a shave cream or an after shave balm works okay but I figured, why not try other brands that will flatter me? Anthony Logistics skin care products, allergy tested, really works for me.

But then again, buying things makes me feel better. A lot of people seem to link happy with spending money. It doesn’t even have to be that the thing we’re buying makes us happy. Some people just find happiness in shopping. I am one of those people, why not? If I am feeling stressed, I’d go shopping and feel better. Not because I bought a new pair of denim that looked great on me, just because I bought something, I’d feel better.

Do I really need a handful of sweater just because they are on sale? If this is what I want, then isn’t it nice to be able to afford, and have a bad habit of becoming the needs a little way of making me smile? In which btw if you’re thinking of an iPod (because everyone else’s spinning the touch screen) most likely you’d be surprise that you wants one too - you know how much advertising create endless numbers to each of us to buy these products. I must say that satisfying our needs brings less emotional well-being than the ones we want.

And happiness? In fact, around the World, survey has it that the poorer countries often seemed to have the edge in reporting a greater sense of happiness. Is that why we, Filipinos, are ranked as the 2nd-happiest people in the planet? Naturally I’m not referring here to people who are in a state of starvation or other extremely circumstances, but rather people who simply live a less hectic and materialistic lifestyle than most of us in more industrialized settings.

In the end, I certainly want to get to a point where I have more money to buy things and be more financially set for the future, but I don’t think I’ll be happier at that point, maybe just a different kind of happy. Buying things is probably alright, as long you keep it balance, it’s just that everyone is different.

“Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy things that makes you happy”. And for that, a personal skin care products I just bought will keep me looking good throughout the day and I’m happy.

Besides, I think the Spring is here and it made me smile and sing.

Saving isn’t that bad. You can buy real estate. At least that’s what we are planning on doing in Canada.

I have to say, it is hard finding a perfect product, whether it be clothes, perfume, or anything else that you buy.

For example, I bought these skinny jeans in fluro orange and I absolutely love them. However, the front pockets are so shallow! I can’t even put my mobile phone in there, where my other skinny jeans (that are coloured black) can, plus they have zips so it’s ensured that everything won’t fall out. Plus my fluro jeans are a perfect fit. Not too tight, not too loose and I don’t need to wear a belt if I don’t want too. It’s just too bad that the pockets aren’t what I expected.

I find comfort in retail therapy too. And I think it’s okay as long as you still have money for real necessities.

True, money can buy things that make us happy and when we’re happy we’ll most likely pass on our happiness to others too. :)

So if you can afford it, spend and smile and share the happiness to others too. :)

Dopeboy, I am no expert and not hundred percent sure where to buy these products in the Philippines because unfortunately, I don’t live there so I don’t know where to. Why not try the Rustans store in Makati City or their branch at Quezon City’s new Department store (I forgot the name) which they might have these products?
