The shoe that fits like a glove

February 11, 08

After carefully thinking of buying a new shoes, I usually end up asking “where do I start looking for them?” Well if you are in Hong Kong, there’s more than a handful of options. Most of the shops that sells out the “best” design for me are usually from the brand shop. I admit, men’s shoes obviously are a lot expensive than the ladies. Why is that? But the thing is, no matter how many times I refused to visit these big logo brand shops, I am always determined to try any of it. Regardless, I always end up leaving the shop with an empty paper bag because it’s hard to find the right one. And before you know it, whenever you have the moolah, you’d get the right size that fits the bill.

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t always afford a decent shoes. I have always been a fan of Tod’s and I know their shoes are just the perfect style for my feet. And I know my feet would desperately want a pair from this brand except that my feet don’t grow one inch bigger overnight, yet, I’d obviously want to try them on just because it’s the friggin’ pair of TOD’S. So it didn’t fit again - remember I was having a hard time finding one almost a year ago? It was the exact scenario.

Yes, my feet is 5.5 inches. SMALL. Rare and I’m mad. Just how bizarre it can be!

But ask these questions – do I really need a decent dress shoes for my job? No. Am I athletic? No, I don’t need a sports shoes. Do I suffer from foot pain? Sometimes, that’s why I love wearing leather sandals. What style of shoe do I want – dressy, elegant shoes, work boots, casual sneakers? Anything, as long as the shoe fits!

Men’s shoes rarely sell that much of a smaller size than 6 so I usually end up with the Converse shoes that I bought a few days ago, a special design from Jack Purcell but damned, did I ever used it? No. It’s still in the box, clean and crispy and hadn’t opened it since. Call me a hypocrite but it didn’t feels great on me. I bought it because it’s the new hip in town right now.

Anyways, Prada has mesmerizing shoes. The Mainland folks goes ga-ga on these brand, like the LV’s. They are almost everywhere as if you are in a street market buying for some sardines. People around here would line up to get the latest season designs and some even pre-order the product before it went on the display. So I tried on one, two — still in disappointment, the only smallest size available was size 6. I knew this has nothing to do with price or styles, it’s just that my tiny feet spoils the devil out of me. I might be going back again, well maybe for their wallets - they are not that loud like the Gucci’s flattering huge logo, yet it’s simple and looks classic. But I am not there for the wallet. I think.

The truth of the matter is, however, that the brand name that is best for me may not be the brand name that is best for somebody else, right? I think the shoes that’s best for me to turn to will depend on the structure of my foot and my lifestyle and the particular style of shoe I am interested in. But although I am a sandal lover, I’d want something that I can also use for any occasion incase someone care to invite me for a party, innit?

So after about a couple of hours searching for the shoes, I got a perfect size with a perfect style - from Bally. A loafer - it was on sale, 40% off. Ok na diba? Totally sweet.

The Italians love to infuse care into their fashion, and Bally’s footwear is no exception. Well-crafted and made of the finest leather, your shoe will fit like a glove and make you appear at the top of the fashion game at anywhere.

Right, made in Italy.

Funny after I paid for it, I left the Bally shop, I took off my old shoes and wear them away. They are now mine, so wear them, it fits, so who cares, huh? I do love any kind of shoes, as long as it fits. I don’t believe that buying any other styles of shoes is a big deal either. Only if you have a lack of confidence when it comes to choosing or wearing your shoes, it’s not always easy for ayone to find one but unless you know how to wear them, buy it. In general, a pair of shoes should match with the belt and the pants.

No men care about shoes, or that all women do. Those suggestions are insulting. Some men could match me pair for pair, and women who couldn’t care less whether or not ballet shoes are “hot” this season. Well, let’s face it, some view shoes as practical necessities, while others have a shoe obsession. And most people that I know probably land somewhere in between.

Now that I have them, it’s perfect with my jeans and (also with my pair of casual pants). As you know any color or style of shoes is always perfect for jeans. Boots, sneakers, loafers and sandals all work great with jeans. Here’s a tip from the very nice sales staff who gave me an idea how to match a color for men’s shoes.

  • Black shoes - works well with navy, grey or black pants.
  • Brown shoes - are best suited to tan, brown, beige, greens, other darker earth tones.
  • Burgundy shoes - works well with khaki, lighter browns, blue and grey.
  • Tan shoes - looks great with lighter earth tones, blue, beige, lighter tan or white.
  • And oh, maybe you’re wondering why I can afford to buy this kind of shoe? It was from my Lai See packets. See, the Year of the Rat is giving me special treatment. Times like these, it’s always nice to be single.

In Quebec, at least for now, I wear Zamberlan Master GT RR hiking boots. You can wear them in -20C and +30C. They are great for walking.

Range, it’s hard to imagine myself in a freezing country even if I’m geared up with boots and thick jackets. I’m a ‘tropical’ person really. :)

Inthesity, you know what I like the ones at Zara, it’s a lot cheaper and stylish but the sizes are just too big for me. Europeans has huge feet eh? Paul Smith is expensive for sure.

i’ve always associated Bally with, you know, the older set kasi my Dad is a huge huge fan of Bally and Florsheim (save for athletic shoes and sandals, he doesn’t wear anything else). pero your shoes rock! they’re pretty contemporary and are greatly changing my impression of the brand, hehe. besides, we’re not exactly far from becoming a member of the “older set” so. :P

no kidding, i love the shoes! sulit! :D
