If the shoe fits

I need to STOP this.

I have previously become a prisoner of WordPress minimalist templates so maybe it’s time to end this today, making sure it’s the right one. Obviously, it didn’t occur to me that I’d been busy searching, trying, configuring themes dozens upon dozens of times after my birthday trip in Macau. It’s been days, but it is always rewarding to find something you like, but it is essential to like yourself first, right?

I know, I simply wanted change - to change the way it looks from the already beautiful theme. It’s a common sense to me to make and try other things. If it fails to my liking, just try another until I see it fits okay. So I basically think that changing here and there gives meaning to something more different other than a headache and sleepless nights.

Given the head-spinning speed of change nowadays, there might not seem to be much to say about the need to preserve it. After all, aren’t we awash in change? I am another year older and I began to think that I should NOT really change, quite literally. I mean, ‘change’ can be so frightening and even paralyzing to me.

Well it’s been a terrific reminder to me whenever I want to change that sometimes the only thing that stopping me from achieving great things is my own mind-set. One of the best lessons I’ve learned from the decades in which I’ve taken to heart is that not to letting myself be crippled by mistakes. I know we all learn from it. I’ve tried many many times and learned something from them and move on. Change, naturally is easier to take, that is, if you’re the one initiating.

But in life, if we think wide enough, we’re not always the one’s taking control. So what to do? Change to what, really?

Trying something different. Deliberately buy new shoes (talking about yearly bonus, can’t resist to spend). Or probably do the opposite of what I DON’T usually do - read different kinds of books. Sounds easy to change, does it?

Truth is, you can lead change or it can lead you. The trick is to manage that risk productively. And I did. I’m happy with the outcome of this new theme. Not to mention, sleepless nights tweaking the sidebars and how to make a BIG decent image but I’d manage to make it look like a Warhol, my thin ugly face and a big black mole. It looks too cliche’.

But it’s the key there. I have actually accomplished something BIG. I understand, as people mature (or for that matter, gets older) we tend to look for a more comfortable balance between trying new things and sticking to what we know we do best. I know I am good at blogging figuratively deleting files and it probably didn’t look perfect, but at least it certainly come close.

Then really, “if the shoe fits”, do you think you’re actually allowing for growth there?

I’m hoping you like this new theme, free from Upstart Blogger.

Sidenote: Belle, thank you so much for the Stephanie Mae’s Album, your daughter is simply the young, talented, fresh and beautiful Indie artist. I am getting so attached with her song, “You Are Not There”. I highly recommend this CD to everyone, listen for more. Congratulations Steph!

Meeya, when I’m bored, I make kalikot with my template, interesting to learn a bit sometimes. Other times, doing “silly” things makes me even more bored. Buti naman you’re not “tired” coming back seeing different themes every visit.

Maganda naman ang theme mo, i agree with Meeya, whichever you prefer, i’d still visit your page. Btw, change is good if you change for the better. And i think you deserve new pair of shoes. =)

Diane, change for the better, been doing it many times every year. So far, I have accepted my defeat, if I can’t do it, focus on something else. Like singing, you know. Teka, di ko pa nada-download yung “Just Once”.

Cheh, sure sure. Gamitin mo, it’s very easy to use, under GPL yung theme so you can do the way you wanted, in a very minimalist way, no need to learn how to use the php. Saka widget-ready na yun, it loads faster. I actually LOVE that theme. Get it here.

I think you’ve good taste in choosing template, and every time I’ve visited your blog, there’s always something new. Me on the other hand don’t like to change my template, I wasn’t crazy about it at first but it’s grown on me now.
