A Dialogue With K

My new iPod nano is not that phat

It’s just simply charming.

By accident, I browsed around Times Square in Causeway Bay with a friend to buy her first iPod. Apparently, the intention was just one of the factors that will be considered but because I was charmed with the new look of this 3rd generation iPod nano, I bought one for myself too.

What’s the new cool factor? It has changed from its tall, slender size into a wider, squatter form factor. Apple made these change to allow a high-resolution screen and it turns out that it also allows picture browsing and video replay.

Neato.

Now what happened with my thick 4th Generation iPod (see list #19)? It’s not that I’m tired using it, just you know it’s heavy - nevertheless I’d always be an Apple fan. How about my not-so-old iPod shuffle? I actually gave it to my brother when I visited Bicol. I suspect, it was my over-generosity that I decided to give it for ‘adoption’. Not only did I made my younger brother happy, I’ve somewhat come into realization that the new iPod nano’s highest density screen is to replace my shuffle for my upcoming birthday this month.

So it’s like my earlier birthday gift (plus another Mac computer). The new cool feature of the screen, as much as it is wider, has also facilitated a new user interface, though. A key feature of this is the ‘cover flow’ - an interface that allows you to browse your music visually by seeing album covers. Sound interesting? It certainly looked impressive.

What’s more? This new toy has also opened up the option of games that encourage you to play three games included in the product that has the ability to download others via iTunes. I got the 4Gbytes in which I am allowed to play at least a thousand tracks. I even added my own recordings. It wasn’t cheap (except for the give away silicon cover, thank you very much) and even though we know that everyone has an iPod out there, you’d be amazed how many people still ask about it and say, “Cool, is that an iPod”?. It’s true people want COOL things, so which means an iPod is quite promising that makes the nano a one small BIG attraction for everyone. The back is a polished stainless steel with five eye-catching colors. I fancied the aluminum color.

On the other news, Hong Kong is currently experiencing the winter monsoon weather in which it was predicted the coldest winter of the year. I am wondering about other places or does it only apply to China? Since the chill factor is here to linger for a while - in fact, for the record January will be the most of the really cold days in Hong Kong - I’d bet my new toy would literally keep me warm and therefore, let me enjoy “The Trouble With Being Myself” by Macy Gray.

Will the chill make history this January or my new nano?

Sha, you got the U2 ipod? COOLNESS. I wasn’t the first lucky person when it first launched - it was limited edition, I don’t know if you can still get one of those anymore. I heard if you want to purchase iPod online, you can actually ask for the personalized name engrave at the stainless black.

How did you know I love mojitos? HAPPY NEW YEAR Sha, so happy reading comments from you.

To be honest, I don’t understand why there would be video on a screen that small.

Wendy, haven’t tried playing the video yet. I know what you mean, it does look like a chunky stopwatch but since it’s my first, I think I like it. That’s why it’s called a nano, it fits well into the Nano family tree. It’s ultra thin. Let me rephrase that: it’s crazy insane cookie thin, both compared to the slim iPhone, and the previous generations of music-only Nanos.

Hi K! Congrats on your new gadget :) though I find the screen a bit too small for video, all in all it’s still cute ;)

Thess, yes it’s true, if you like watching video, this Nano is not going to work for you. Like what I said to Wendy, it’s still cute and I like it. However, the Nano also does some things the iPhone does not yet, including games. Now that’s an added bonus, right?

    Hi K,

Belated Happy New Year!!! Sorry I came late, nagpabundok kasi muna ako for a few days. Btw, I saw this nano Ipod several times sa tv commercial and I’d say it looks impressing, though like Wendy I also can’t imagine watching video on a very tiny screen. Hehehe, anyways…isn’t it obvious na I’m not a mini gadget fan :)

Ate Beng, I read your earlier post. My goodness, you guys were uphill in a snowy mountain - I think that was the coolest New Year ghetto. Syempre, in case ako ang niyaya mo sa snowy weather, por dios, wag na! Dito nga sa HK, bumaba lang ng 5 degrees and weather di ko na kaya.

Trust me, new toys only lasts for 6 months for me, after that sawa na ako (hahaha nagyabang), sabi nga, take advantage of the little things while it’s hot, but what matters, it’s stil an iPod. The video is certainly not a cinematic experience, but for watching TV, home movies, the video iPods are practical for some purposes.

Belle, do you know iPod is for everybody (daw) or something like that. Nowadays, people do buy cellphone with mp3 players, then maybe mas ok na sayo yun. But since hindi ka gadget freak (and because you’re a wiser than me), bacalon na sana ning pagkaon, bacong iyu? Spare me with this ha? I know little things makes me smile - at least I am not into drugs, hahaha.

Kenks, CONGRATS! You finally made it. I think nagkakataon lang siguro. Earlier on kasi I was trying to implement comment options for readers, and because of the growing number of akismet spams getting into my comments, I did a little filtering on the commenting but the plugin didn’t worked well with the new wordpress version.

Sabi nga ng Mama ko, akala nya daw using cellphone is easy to communicate with her children abroad, so we gave her one cellphone, eh ang alam nya lang, sumagot ng telepono pero minsan di nya alam kung ano ang pipindutin. And that was sweet dahil, uunga naman, technology these days makes people look insane, diba?

Hi Amoonheart, hahaha am not worried of accumulating tiny scratches, I’d let them be. Infact when it comes to gadget, I am careless, not to compare if I got new clothes or shoes then I’m very careful with the wear and tear. Enjoy your iPod, it’s something we can show off to people that we are indeed “cool”, innit? Thanks for the visit.
