Mabuhay: Miky “Caycay” Sorra
Hongkong-based singer-entertainer Miky “Caycay” Sorra was in town recently for the soft launching of her first album “MABUHAY” during the birth anniversary of her late father, Felix, to whom it is dedicated.
The album, with some songs about the island where she grew up, was arranged by Eric Narvaez, with Alex Datu as publicist. Miky herself was the executive producer, along with Carmen Magdaraog Sorra. Around a thousand CDs have already been made and is currently selling for P150 in Hongkong. The making of the album, which is already playing in local radio stations, was backed by HK-based sponsors Harmony Productions, Friends Connections, Hongkong OFW organizations, Hair & Make-Up HK, Service ATC, the Catanduanes Tourism Council and The BuGz.
I met Miky on Christmas Day while heading to attend the evening mass at St Jo near the Peak Tram station where our fellow Viracnon’s gathered around for a Christmas cheers. For a minute I thought I knew her already. And I wondered, I must have met her somewhere in Hard Rock Cafe’ in TST. So the thick face in me had asked her where she work, of course I introduced myself and surprisingly, she knew who I was - actually it was my brothers whom she knew from the band in some hotel lounge a few years ago and their group still hangs out until now. We chatted a few hours later and introduced me her first launching album dedicated to her late father. She gave me a copy and I must say, after listening to a bunch of song tracks, she definitely got the talent.
I enjoyed her own arrangement on the song “Catanduanes Island”. It’s an upbeat song similar to the tune of Disney’s “Hakuna Matata”. In this track she yells, “come to the place, where you can relax. Feel at ease like you can move fast. Catanduanes where I grew up, eleven towns to drive around” is something about the simplicity of life indaprabins and the wonderful ways where everyone, no matter how bad the weather can get you when hit by typhoons, still you’d be feeling excited about the place, it’s not just the whole Bicol Express food experience but it’s all about the people back there that makes it a great place to visit. It’s said to be the Hawaii of the Philippine archipelago which often visited by many surfers. Talking about unspoiled beaches, diverse geography and exotic flora and fauna - truly a paradise to behold.
Update: Here’s the sample of the song “Catanduanes Island”
Another track “Mabuhay” was dedicated to all the OFW’s in Hong Kong who have left our country. This song expresses her great admiration to all the Pinoys who have swallowed their pride, giving up their dreams of having a good careers back in our country in the hope to find a better source of living abroad. If you want to feel a little sad in a place away from home, this is it. Enter, homesickness.
Apparently, she will be very busy in January to promote the Album around Hong Kong. I have actually purchased five copies of the CD and for the record, I’m going to sell it with the extra 10% as my commission. She didn’t know about it but heck, I am good promoter, so pretty much like she’s going to be one of the popular Pop star here (or is she already?) and I’d be her alalay anytime soon.
Miky, congratulations to your career and hoping to sing a duet with you off-track any time. Who knows one day, I’d be entering music and record my own self titled album, “K, sings the Classic”. It’d be a hit, what do you think? Sayang, wala akong camera, my phonecam didn’t do it justice.
All words and music was composed by Miky herself. Such a talented lady, indeed. Oh, there’s no online music sample, but she’s considering to put up her own website to promote the CD. Watch out.
+Track listing: Mabuhay / My Papa / Mahal Ko Kayo Inay / Aking Tanggapin / Ang Bebe Kong Praning / Who Is The One For Me / Tell Me Call Me / Catanduanes Island / Tell Me Call Me (Mandarin version)

This new AKISMET upgrade is pissing me off really. But no fear, all the legit comments are being scrutinized muna bago sya ma-approved, hahaha.
Uunga walang song sample. I am trying to upload one pero hindi gumagana, update ko na lang next time. Sorry for the inconvenience, Ms Cheh.
Ung rinas man that she’s climbing up the ladder. She is doin well in her field. Baging interesting itong pop song nya about Catanduanes. Tell Caycay na magtao copy sa Provincial Tourism Office tapos sa mga local radio stations here. It would be good that a homegrown talent, despite her new found success sa foreign land, dai nakaringaw sa saiyang banwaan. She’s a fine example, a good role model. Congratulations!
And K, maurag ka na publicist and impressario, ha? hehe. Good review. Ala Boy Abunda, hehe
Sus hari daw ako dyan ta dai ngani ako batid to post a review (music or movie) basta naheling ko marinas man so Album nya and she’s very proud of it, syempre mga taga Catanduanes kaiba sa “climbing up the ladder” nya.
“lika, usap tayo”. Diba sabi ni Boy Abunda?

A blogger can easily be judged and so there are people leave nasty comments.
Although most of the time, I don’t use comment box as a place for people who likes arguments or dislike to what I write, but I’m open to any criticisms or suggestions, personally it is how I’d like to improve myself. I’d like to leave my blog a happy blog, it’s vital that we should interact or use this as a conversational tool. I also try not to moderate comments, since I am the author of my blog I can always either delete or not to publish a comment.
Everyone’s different, we may not know what other people think of what we write. Some might see it differently - our writing is our voice, but you know we are what we write so we also need to be a responsible blogger.
