Family Matters, Hong Kong, Life, Memes... or something, Observations, Realities, Thoughts

Dear Santa

December 12, 07

Xmas mini-treeSpare me, I have nothing in mind to write. I’ve been thinking about the meme that Ambo gave me but honestly, I have a Xmas tree - but it’s not that grand. Why would I put a tree? Well, I walked around the store yesterday to find one but since I am downsizing this year’s Xmas, I opted for this HK$19.00 worth of ornaments that would at least give the Xmas look under my loft-bed. I took a picture in case you’d like to see - so considered this the meme-christmas.

And oh honestly, I don’t celebrate Hong Kong Christmas. To me it’s the most depressing time of the year. I know it’s a time for family but then, what I’m really interested is to ask why you do it - or dont? Is it because you were brought up in a family that always did it and you are just continuing the tradition? Is it because you feel obligated to buy presents (or because you know there are people who are going to give you gifts?).

While most of us do put Xmas tree just for the sake of making it look or feel like Christmas, shouldn’t we think of the ways the world should live on a daily basis - by living, loving, giving, caring - then everyday would be Christmas, innit?

Anyway I’d like to share this story.

There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job it was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no actual address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about.

The letter read:

    Dear God,

I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension check. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope.

    Can you please help me?

    Sincerely,
    Edna

The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.

Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read:

    “Dear God,

How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it must have been those goons at the Post Office.”

    Sincerely,
    Edna

i guess you are right in saying that we should think about how to live life on a daily basis but aren’t you grateful that there is a time where people tend to be more loving, giving, and caring? ^_-

Inthesity, apparently I am devote catholic, it’s just that I don’t feel like “xmas” in this city (every year this is my usual complaints, hahaha) much that I’d prefer celebrating it in my country but as soon as I got a gift from you, then Merry Xmas!

Ate Beng, I need a big space. What do you expect in HK, I know it’s a nice city, high-rise buildings but to some, space-deprive living is like hell. At least I manage to keep things in order kaya nga kahit gusto ko ng malaking Xmas tree eh di pwede.

I don’t know much about this, but can you not do a 301 redirects so that you can keep your page rank, or at least get the page rank back to the original ranking faster.

Hi K.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. Appreciate the visit :)

LOL @ the joke hehe

Uhhmmmm as much as we want everyday to be like Christmas, it’s impossible. There’s just too much chaos, concern, work, responsibility…the whole shebang, in the world. I can’t imagine myself being loving and merry whole year round hahaha kidding. Seriously that’s why I try to make Christmas special because in reality that is really the only time everybody goofs around and be mushy even to some so-called enemies..how cute hehe :)
