Love ‘blows’ on Christmas

My Friday wasn’t exactly the day where for the most part, likes to spend a happy hour down at the nearest pub. I don’t do that anymore.

Gone are the days when most of my expat friends would invite me for a Friday movie watching or a dinner at their house - those are my kind of weekend. This time it wasn’t a big deal anymore since I’d normally just go out by myself or having my normal dinner and walk around town is something a seriously mature person would want anyways - just a typical Friday. Most of the time, I’d choose not to take a day off on Fridays or Saturdays (I work during the weekends too) as I’d prefer sitting around quietly in my home like an idiot so that I wouldn’t want to know what’s happening outside.

Watch the trailer: Heartbreak KidSince it was my Friday’s off, I went out ahead just to make up for the lost time and watched a little bit of Ben Stiller’s Heartbreak Kid. A gray-haired Ben Stiller can still put a spell on a comedy movie? And even though he is getting older, it turns out this movie is different one, a bit of funniness here and there but it was quite a decent movie afterall. Out of five stars, I’d give it a 3. I didn’t know what to expect there since it was the only movie available while killing my time at the mall. Yes, I did spent my time at the mall.

The movie is about a forty-something bachelor whose father - played by Ben Stiller’s real father, is trying too hard to hook him up with a woman. On Valentine’s Day, Eddie meets Lila (Malin Akerman) - a resemblance to Cameron Diaz character in “There’s Something About Mary - after trying to stop a man from mugging her in which unfortunately, only was revealed afterwards that it was the ex-bf. The two fall in love of course and, though hesitant at the thought of marriage, Eddie thinks he has found the perfect woman and so the two get hitched.

The first few parts was enjoyable, except seeing Ben Stiller in awkward sex scenes is somewhat a change of pace for him but this was weird and a little unnecessary and apparently not a good one. Stiller does a good job of playing the same character he plays in all his films, but this time with a jerk quality to him.

After the movie, I walked around the mall and found a newly opened Lane Crawford’s shop (picture above) exclusively for Home Designs and Furnitures. It’s too high-end for me but I’ve seen rattan designs which I’d suspect are one of Kenneth’s creations. So of course one of my guilty pleasure was to check out the shop. Fascinating, indeed. And expensive. Nevertheless, Friday evening is always a day for everyone around here. I begun to wonder that people are really getting so into the yuletide shopping.

Where and what do you normally do on Fridays night? I mean, at this time of the year, where else can we be? Shopping malls.

Exactly! Shopping malls. The year end sales are crazy. I got myself a SONY VAIO notebook and a Samsung 32″ TV for a cool, good price! Yay to me. Hehe.

Asha, a Samsung 32″ TV? Is that the flat-screen? Can I trade in my bulky Sharp TV? Good to see you.

for some unknown reason, i do not like crowds and lines. so i tend to avoid malls on holiday week ends, i prefer the week days when there’s less people. i guess, i’m anti-social on some days, hahaha! shopping wise, if it’s something i can buy online; then i’ll buy it on the web. week ends, i’d like it to be relaxing kasi. bahalang mag-isa ok lang, and shopping alone can be less of hassle. baka kasi may maki-charge sa credit card ng di oras. lumabas na naman ang pagka-kuring ko. hahahaha

Nell, oh cmon it’s always nice to buy ‘up-close and personal’, how can you guess if the “shoe fits”? And although the change-room line is somewhat a pain-in-the-butt, I’ve always think that buying from the hangers is more interesting for me. That’s the way we called it, “shopping”, well Hong Kong is the place to be - at least I don’t need to drive if you know what I mean, hehehe.

Weekends during the holidays is so stressful at the mall. All I do is pick up fights. I tend to stay away from the mall specially on weekends unless I have to really really buy something quick and I do it as soon as the mall opens, before the crowds come.

Marni, pick up fights about what? And added to that stress, beware of pickpockets. But you know, I enjoy the malls in Manila dahil may BENCH hahaha kaso mas nakaka-aliw mag grocery dyan kesa mag brand-shopping, diba? Buti na lang in Bicol (in my province) walang malaking malls, we spend the simplicity of Xmas.

Belle, asteg diba? I gave away my digitalcam in Bicol as per request ni Kathleen. So nagpapasensya ako sa sa camera phone, and I think it’s ok, maganda naman kuha. Oist, that’s my wish list this Xmas - erased that, sa bonus na lang comes January.

I don’t go out much, especially the mall on a Friday night; I only go there during my lunch break and to buy something. I guess I stay home and relax on Friday night, read (embarrassed, boring life I guess.)

Ginger, I would blame my age-ing. I’ve somewhat avoid Friday nights, for me they are for the teenagers nowadays - in case I’d like to, I feel kind oblige to spending or easily get jealous with the people who can manage to spend themselves in a nice resto. We will be fine inside our home on Friday evenings, so here’s a toast! *cling*.
