Christmas is coming so which means, everything around us have become so colorful. Just the other day, the malls started filling up gigantic ornaments, winter clothes and jackets are now the normal casual wear these days. Since I opt for something rugged, I looked happy because finally, even if I dreaded the colder months, I can now at least wear my jackets. But then, it’s nothing new. People are happier during Christmas time largely because of the year-end bonus and the holidays.
I’ve been thinking of putting up my tiny Christmas tree but I can’t picture out what I want to do with the old stuff. Do you usually buy an assortment of colorful Christmas bows and candy cane with mini ornaments every Christmas time?
In Hong Kong, it’s a different way of celebrating. It means, more revenues for the retails shop while a lot of people are spending mostly on fancy clothes, in which btw Zara has the coolest classic clothes for holiday parties - say wearing the tie & coats is likely the way to go on during Christmas eve. But my choice is simply the FCUK and Izzue.
A local client the other day said that Christmas in Hong Kong is just about being “normal”. Specifically, people just behave like it’s just another normal weekend. People like to dress up, go to the pub and be just the normal folks on yule season. I guess he was just giving me an impression that HK is not America or Canada where every holiday is truly a special holiday. Think, snowman and colorful lights. In the Philippines, I see Christmas as the typhoon season but despite of, the typical Pinoy way of putting Christmas tree is as early as October. We may be the only country who spend the earliest and longest Christmas ever, there’s always the spirit of joining together or playing Christmas songs because it is the happiest place on earth to ‘celebrate’ it, we feast on food.
Who never likes Christmas holiday? Although normally I am a die-hard anti-social type of person in times like these and while others are celebrating the yule with wines and foods, my kind of holiday is just about going to work and spending less. Not so fun, huh? Perhaps I have now a greater sense of belonging, spending wisely is just about saving something in the future - even not figuring out what kind of clothes I want, parties to attend and gifts I’d like to give for as long as life is good, I can say that my impression of Christmas in Hong Kong, in one word is, civility.
And this however, what my new theme is about. I want it to look less. I’ve been trying to find a good theme layout for Christmas but I was overwhelmed with so many of them so I just went and decide what’s easy on the eye. I guess many of you thinks this theme “is not so me”. How would you like to change your Wordpress theme? One of the things I like on my old wordpress is that it has a slick features to change the look of your website. Almost instantly. Now that I have my own someone gifted me a nice url, it’s never easy to decide what attracts me. I know that there are rooms for improvement but it enables me to learn a little about the css.
Question is, what goes through your mind as you choose a WordPress Theme? Is it just about color and design elements, or do you think about functionality? I think this new theme features less headache - it obviously pretty much say it all, talking about simplicity.
Do less. Write more. The ethic behind this theme’s design is to do less, but do it better. By keeping things simple and eliminating clutter, Paperback is designed to get out of your way so you can do what you want to: publish well.
One of the things that motivates me these days is to look clean, to use less and to do more out of things I mentioned - to be able to write well, so this theme really stands out. The most important thing of choosing a theme is how the readers think of your blog. Think about how people will find information about you, how to contact you, and how to find out more information? Is your blog easily to navigate? How about the colors? I think that my big fat “pink” color blog title is so intimidating to look at. But it looks neat.
When I was a kid, I like blue. As I grow up, I started to like, white. When I got here, everyone loves black - so I kind of digging the fact that black is my favourite color. Did you know that approximately 25% of all internet users are blind, visually or physically impaired and classified as disabled? So why pick a color that can make your reader struggle to read? Ok, I am not young anymore, sometimes I just don’t see the point of “too much going on” in my blog. So for me, less is more.
To think my mini-Christmas tree needs a little color, I’m still thinking whether I should just stick with flickering lights or say no to plastic Christmas tree this year. December is just around the corner, maybe it’s never too late to put up a tree but I think, I’d stick with the usual “white”. So consider it done.
