Investing something to relax

ball lounge chair
Ball Lounge Chair, originally uploaded by: Lilia

A friend had asked me about what I normally do during a typical weekends, well aside from working so hard just to feed myself, I replied, “the fact is, I’m no longer spending my time at shopping malls looking for the next expensive clothes this season” - ‘expensive’ means during the non-sales period - instead, I indulge on a solitary day, sits around the house, looking at my tiny flat proving to myself that I love home designs.

Not that I am decorating or shelling out a lot of cash to buy furnitures, it’s just that nowadays, I find it rather inviting and rejuvenating rearranging things from tiny clutter to best-to-throw stuff at my flat. I think the best comfort and style of my dream home is really the sum of less noticeable details - cleanliness.

Well a sense of solidity in the basic needs of everyday’s life is how you feel comfortable sitting around, sleeping around, eating around, blogging around, of course to make our home more inviting, to make it a space that rejuvenates and inspire.

I’d like the idea of investing in a lounge chair. It may seem like an indulgence but if you’re going to invest a one piece of furniture, this should be it. Every man needs a chair of his own - a place to read, listen to music and to power nap. Funny whenever I visit a dentist for ‘tooth cleaning’, the moment I’d position myself on that black leather dental chair, I started to fall asleep. I really do.

A lounge chair is like a piece of expensive garments we buy on a branded store. So if you want to invest a furniture, you should devote the same level of attention to finding one that you would to finding an expensive LV bags or an Armani suit.

Hi ris, beanbags, I am a fan. And for whatever reason, they are light and could sit there all day. Apparently, it’s not easy to wash its cover, you really need a big plastic garbage bag to keep the fillings aside if you’re planning to laundry or replace it.

There are some cool lounge chairs out there. They can get quite expensive quickly, even if you just buy some local designer brands.

Range, they are seriously expensive. A friend even bought a massage chair as opposed to getting a less expensive lounge furniture. I tried it a few times at their home but it’s even more painful to sit than relax.

Been missing those times when I can do whatever, however I want at home decorating, rearranging, unloading(pagtatapon pag hindi na tayp, lol),painting and buying etc. Now, I have to compromise, husband has its own taste, I have my own and plus, there’s MIL who interferes from time to time.

Not many years ago, I decorated our home plainly with white nature color stuff, from white walls to white frames, from white table clothes to white curtains, our sofa covered with white sheet, throw pillows got white cases etc. Guess, what MIL has to say? Ewww,it looks like hospital/clinic she said. I was naturally appalled bec.it’s me & my taste was being insulted. To be honest,if I can decide I want everything clean & simple!I’m minimalist by heart If I may add.

We have big beanbag, too My husband bought it for our boy to play & sit on and ofcourse,it has spaghetti color and I hate it!lol

The only thing I don’t like beanbags is that it ‘eats up’ a lot of space for my flat. If only I was rich like you Cheh, I’d do the same in my Apartment.

Airwind, minsan mahirap mag imagine ng mga bagay na gusto natin. Kasi end of the day, you’ll feel disappointed din.

Exactly, ron. If I can’t afford a good furniture like that, basta may foot massage ako dalawang beses isang buwan. I considered that a good relaxation.

One of the things that I absolute love is furniture and at one point, I bought a lot of but luckily some of my sisters were in the industry and I could get them next to nothing. I think it’s worth investing in a good lounge chair, just shop around, once you see it, you will know it. I think a good piece of furniture has soul.

“I think a good piece of furniture has soul.”

Ginger, true! true! Problem is, when I am about to buy things I like, I easily get trapped saying “do I really need this”? Here in HK, bottom line is usually “the more, the better”. Buy as much as you can for yourself; you deserve it. But in many cases you may really want to buy less, or at least not push your finances so much that you really have to strain to afford something that says you can afford.

Belle, dai ka na bribe? hahaha. Maybe because he knew you won’t be needing a good chair for yourself anyways, so it makes sense to minimize what he would spend for one good chair than having two, innit? How about your car? Who choose first?

i used to dream of having a bean bag, kaya naman when i got the chance to buy it here in germany — bili agad. mas okay yung made in cotton kesa sa leather that my hubby used to have during his young days kaya the cotton bean bag we use, the leather one is in the storeroom. i dont wash it, just vacuum and pagpag every week :D

“… dont wash it, just vacuum and pagpag every week.”

Bwahahaha, that’s a good housekeeping. Well I assumed your family has a substantial income (I believe Americans and Europeans love big houses and expensive furnitures) to spend on something, I think expensive is better. For as long as you’re happy with the things you buy that can benefit everyone in your house, it’s quick to decide right?

2007-11-08 02:06:36

alam mo, you dont need to buy something expensive to find quality esp with ikea and those kinds of shops.. ako kuripot pag ganyan but my hubby would rather pay more. di nya maintindihan na maganda rin naman if you buy from flea markets or ebay and simply redecorate or pimp it up.

2007-11-07 01:37:22

i need to buy a house first. :D wala akong talent sa decorating! if it were up to me, papatulan ko yung rooms to go (or ikea for that matter). i’d buy the entire display na lang para matching lahat, hehe.

i’m not a fan of beanbags, though. wala masyadong structure, i think.

My wife loves furniture. I like some pieces as well, but since we are in Taiwan for a few years, it doesn’t make much sense to buy some here. Our place is furnished.

However I am planning on getting a big engine motorcycle. Taiwan has recently made it legal for big engine bikes (the ones with red plates and 500cc and more) to go on the highways.
