Morrocan Lights

The Autumn season is finally here. Yes Hong Kong also enjoys its ‘Four Seasons’. The new season sets off this September, shopping malls are now on “Window Dressing” days. If you rushed into the Zara shop to get the last minute summer clothes, most of the summer items were gone. Although it is still hot, this time the humidity and temperature drops dramatically giving clear, sunny and comfortable weather. The average temperatureis 23 C, the humidity is 72% and the sea temperature is 17 C. So a light jacket can be useful at this time of year. Chinese folks love this weather.

And as said, I’m gonna miss the Summer months, which means waving goodbye to my usual t-shirt & Izzue jeans short.

I enjoyed my short trip to Causeway Bay late last night looking for something new - as they say, Hong Kong is a place where to shop till you drop. As usual, the crowds gets me a bit paralyzed. I took a short walk at the Island Beverly, a shop for HK young hippies slash youth-malls slash Jap’s-like funky-hip style for the young. I know most of the shops are for ladies. There were young schoolgirls pouring in and out the shops with only one mission - shop.

necklaceI found one shop that sells anything Morrocans from lampshades, accesories & slippers. I can’t believed I got one myself. Not the lamps, but the Indian-style silver necklace (pictured) on sale for only HK$45. I thought, wow this is something that will make people stare. And I put it on right away - even the sales girl was smiling at me, probably amused thinking, well my skin is too brown, one might say I am a Thai (which I don’t mind) so it didn’t really matter if the necklace is humongous. If I’d wear it during the day time, it would probably made me looked ridiculous and some would even swerve out of my way but hey, I’d like to look different anyway. So I walked out the shop with the new necklace.

I then took a walk to my favorite shop, G.O.D. flipping thru the vintage photos of Hong Kong when suddenly, one tourist came to asked where I got the necklace. I said, I got it from Thailand, no India. So I lied. I know I’m selfish as I didn’t want them to think I’m just a local who try not to be the same people who carry humongous LV bags in a hippie low waist Levis jeans, or those who loves to sling their cellphones with Gucci’s neck strap.

I love silver necklaces. If you go to the Agnes b. shop, most of their silver necklaces can rip your wallets off. They are so expensive that you’d rather buy the real white gold with a big crucifix pendant to go along with it. I think the more you accessorize yourself, the more you would look like a tall, hard, wooden, lifeless mannequins walking on a yellow pedestrian.

Suffice to say, Hong Kong has kinda influenced me a bit, one of them is to make a fashion statement - been here long enough that I’d rather dress up like one of them than being single out as just another tourist looking for a pair of Giordano underwears, or the Mainland who end up hanging a big PRADA brand over their neck because everyone’s wearing it. If you can buy cheap ones without the tag-price at the back of your shirt, then you should know how to mix them but keeping it look fashionable.

One day, I wanna look like the ZARA men’s mannequin for Autumn. I just can’t blink my eye on their new black suits and khakis with the big brown traveller tote’s paired with a black leather shoes. But then that’s not me, I’d rather just wear what I feel comfortable specially on the weekends and prepare to squeeze in with other style-seekers either way.

When you get through the day without anything to buy because its intentional or just plain bored - and now that I’m broke, I suppose going to the grocery stores with the “I Am Not A Plastic Bag” of Anya Hindmarch bag is simply what I almost want to hanging in my neck full of coca-cola cans, toothpaste and a couple of fresh cut fruits than a pair of leather Tod’s.

good looking necklace..unique! it is a cue for me then to head down to the mall and avail of the summer items on sale. you know we can always send them to relatives at home. pero ako K, pang night shopping lang.

Inthesity, since I am not a fan of Autumn/Winter shopping, I’ll stick to my typical-fashion wearing just the hooded GAP sweaters, rugged jeans & a bonnet knit hat. Speaking of Autumn, a huge DRY cleaning routine.

Belle, I’m weird noh? I think it’s my personal decor. I love necklaces of beads, silver and shells (minus body tattoos) like the ones worn by tribe’s. Well just those little things I wish I had.

Ok, since you’re my avid fan (hahaha, pamaypay), I’ll keep it longer in the sidebar para dumami ang clicks. Meron ka bang medyo alluring na picture aside from that blowing-kisses-in-the-air?

Meeya, I love Autumn as much as I like Winter. It’s not snowing naman here during winter pero mas malamig na parang natutunaw na ice from China, and of course people DRESS UP wayyyy tooo much, which is fun to watch - people parading with their new winter boots. Of course, most of the people here are fashion slave, they think they live in NY.

Cheh, hahaha, wala kang magawa. Oist, overtime na ang sidebar promo for you - some people might give you the spikey overplucked brows dahil overstay ka na masyado sa ‘blogger of the minute’ kuno. LOL.

Gerry, Baya-e sana ta eu man sana kaugmahan ta, maski diit na kasal-an dai man manghimag kaan si Mnsgr Molina (may he rest in peace). Padan-danan ka daw pan-o. Hahahaa.

I love fall weathers, mainly because the leaves turn yellowish, golden in the US, but it’s still green right now, wait till Oct when it’s nice, and cool. I like the smaller necklace, the one in the middle, it’s more like me.

btw, i forgot to ask you pala, do they still sell anya hindmarch bags there?

  21. Wavatar K on 13.09.2007 at 03:00 Post reply

Ginger, the smaller one is not a necklace. I bought it from a Thai shop, some ethnic house decoration.

Gerry, pan-o nag commentaryo ka enot in Bicol pa, kaya na curious ako kaso blog mo, click click click sa archives and of all people si Mrs D pa ang enot kung naheling. Ngata ta dai ako marabya. LOL.

Meeya, all you can find here belongs to a Class A imitation and some, yes they are everywhere, in most street hawkers (karitons). When I and Airwind went to Mongkok, they sell it for around $200 ata. Although the really obvious-fake bags is not bad, I still think that it’s not worth it. Go for the Harrods plastic na lang kaya?

  22. Wavatar Meeya on 13.09.2007 at 03:25 Post reply

the reason i asked is because a “friend’ of mine recently got back from HK and she’s toting an original (daw) na not a plastic bag which she got from the AH boutique there. medyo skeptical lang ako kasi from what i know, sold out na daw all over, tama ba? oh well. :P thanks, K!

From what I heard, in Island Beverly shop that I visited, they still have few pieces. It’s in Causeway Bay area near Sogo, probably sa 2nd Floor ng IB shops. I will check tomorrow if I have the time, malapit lang.

I’m surprised at Causeway Bay. In a month, they completely changed Paterson St. The Starbucks is gone and JP Plaza is completely renovated with new restaurants.

K, you definitely impressed me! it’s quite rare that i meet people who proudly speaks our native tongue, moreso ethnic language. you’re bicolano right? medyo mahihirapan tayong magkaintindihan dahil bisaya naman ako. heheheh! but im so proud of people who’s not ashame to speak our language, dami kasing tao na in-denial eh.

like you, i love to accessorize. people who knows me would know that im coming (on dress down fridays) since they can hear my necklace bells ringing. hehehe! you know those beaded ones from pinas. i so love them to this day! that necklace you got was a good find, sure it looks good on you =)
