I personally think that…

“Cartier killed animals to produce a US $1295.00 piece of furry calf leather bag”.

I said that straight in the face to the poor sales person showcasing their new Cartier bags this Fall in Pacific Place shopping mall. The lady wouldn’t even let me dare take a photo of the bags. As you know, HK are so quick to copy products so the use of all cameras and other photo taking are prohibited so as to protect their designs from being copied. The bags are displayed in an open venue without locks or chains and therefore two security guards have to be on a standby to watch hundreds of brand-conscious shoppers. Should we grab one and runaway (and sell it with interest) instead?

So what am I doing in there? Me and my friend was passing through the Cartier display when we caught a lady colleague standing, posing, walking back and front as she tries one of their bags with another over her thin padded shoulder. Together we laughed and wondered, can she possibly afford that bag? She probably read our minds so we said, “Oh no you can’t afford that. Do you know that some people had to kill animals just so they can make one expensive bag? You should be feeling guilty as you walk in the street, people would be staring as if you were the killer?” We joked.

Really?

This is what the Thousand US Dollar$ Cartier design bag looks like.

Whenever I see fur ads in some magazines and commercials portraying furs as a symbol of elegance, I’d say these fails to show how the original owners of these coats met their gruesome deaths.

To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped. These methods are not 100 percent effective and some animals “wake up” while being skinned.

How cruel is that?

Apparently, the lady couldn’t even say a word why bags should be made with furs? I mean, she couldn’t even care less what the heck were we thinking. She just glanced at us smiling, all red handed and said, “mmmm, girls still do love wearing one like these, it’s pure leather”. I know they are. How about the fur? She has the right to ignore us. But she didn’t. Since she was somewhat embarrassed, she insisted that we’d take some Cartier give-away pins. Shut-up.And.Leave.

As I arrived home, usually I would firstly turn on my Mac. Surprisingly, to add more insult to the injury, I was shocked from what I saw. These. And more of those courtesy of Apple wallpaper.

A fur on my own machine? I laughed so hard and realized, didn’t I just said I hate furs? Damn right, I hate eating my own words again. EVER. Now I’m ditching this wallpaper, seriously. Seriously, do you think that the Cartier fur is faux? Real? A dog fur? I can never really tell. Pardon my innocence but as what expert says, to test if it’s the real one, you should feel it by trying to roll the hairs between your finger and thumb - in which btw, we did. It feels softer to the touch and easily rolls across my fingers. There’s no contest that it isn’t a fake. A faux is more coarse. And for Vogue’ssake, it’s Cartier, I don’t think they will use fake, can they?

Anyways, I think those Cartier pins looks cute. I kind of feel like a kid on Christmas morning crying over nothing then suddenly shut-up because someone gave me a popsicle.
