So, I usually work during the weekends and I have no choice. Don’t ask me why but that’s how the system goes. It sucks that eventhough I’m the senior staff in my Department, I need to do all the work.
Anyways, someone came into my desk asking me to send a fax for her.
After she gave the fax number and the documents, she asked, “do you think these documents would go to the right person?”.
I was like, “what do you mean?”
“Oh well what I mean is that, if I fax something to the wrong place, where does it usually go?”
Again, I said, “whatever fax machine you want to sent it to”.
She continues, “.. but what if it’s a wrong number, does it just stays in somewhere?”
I’m feeling as if like, “what are you talking about? If a fax machine is not working, it doesn’t go anywhere”.
She challenged me by explaining, “So, let’s just say, if I didn’t hit *9 before the number to fax something out, do you think the information is just gone?”
She’s now starting to piss me off, so I said, “well, this fax machine is brand new so it might save the documents in the memory but, you have the originals, so it would be fine, right?”
She smiled, “oh yes, I was just curious if it would come out on a fax machine in the building somewhere.”
I replied, “unless you’re connected to a fax machine, then it won’t”.
She looked at me again and said “Oh okay, thanks.”
What the F-O-O-K!

Poor lady! I think she needs to take some basic computing lessons or that somebody should get her a Technology for Dummies book. Hehe
smart girl. If she put the paper in the microwaves do you think the information will go somewere? Do the information walk?….?
Jaypee, isn’t that an absurd amount of question if someone wants to send simple fax? For a minute there I tried talking to myself, like literally, but I’m no-technical so I was caught red-handed. I have no control of that so I’m glad I did it my own. So if I may ask, since you’re a techie guy, does the documents actually save in the memory if it didn’t get thru? Is it like a browser that creates history folder? Now that’s a question. hehehe.
inthesity, probably the microwave will explode, I’m not sure.
Ahh, in defense of the lady, that is how dumb people learn, by asking questions although it was quite embarrassing. am computer illiterate myself and unless i am walk through step by step by someone, i would never get it.
i think the lady thinks that the original leaves too when fax is sent. too worried that she might not recover the document once she dialsthe wrong number and it get sent to the wrong recipient.
musta na K?
hahahaha! what a weirdo. Normally, a fax with a wrong number will not get through because the number could be just a regular phone no. Aren’t you suppose to hear a fax tone before you press send? labo!
I’m ok but not that great so to speak Belle, I guess. And everytime I look at those beautiful pictures of our province in your blog, it kinda made me feel so lost back here, so close yet so far away and I can’t stop thinking about leaving HK for good. Homesickness gets me nowhere but this is no new ‘disease’ to me, it made me sad - but heck, I must be brave. Right, I need a long holiday.
As for the woman, I think she’s just trying to figure out whether it’s safe to send an important docu via fax than post. Other way, she was probably worried the person she was sending it into won’t get it.
Duke, exactly. Our machine is hi-tech (can use as copier, fax, scanner) so sending a fax can be confusing at times and it doesn’t give the “busy” tone, it would fail-send several times, redialed at least a couple of toots then the dialing mode stops, then you couldn’t tell if it was sent or not - unless of course the fax report showed up “OK”.
