Birthday Cake
Originally uploaded by: kakabi

So okay I’m actually thinking that my days do easily come and go. What I didn’t realized is that, I’m going one year older again and it still frightens me.

I remembered I had a cute birthday last year, I celebrated it at the Jollibee Hong Kong with KIDS. Yes, a Kids’s Party. It was intentionally celebrated like that because some of my close friends weren’t here anymore, the idea was to make it crowded, noisy & dirty. You know how kids behave when someone’s celebrating birthdays. The cake, the give aways, the little fighting over a little balloons and wearing a cone-shape paper birthday hats. I thought that was cute.

As you know I was so relieved and happy that I’d finally put my twenties completely behind me, I really like doing the normal things. I know that most of you would go out for a celebratory dinner with friends and family, and perhaps proceed to paint the town red afterwards. After I turned 30, I always want to be alone during my birthday. I would splurge on a massage, maybe do a little shopping for myself, then settle in for a relaxing evening of a good movie and an even better bottle of wine. Yet, I could care less about a cake. Sadly, I’m broke right now and there’s anything I can do to celebrate it outside all by myself either, so I’d probably going to do that, hey Tod’s here I come, when I get my money end of this month. I have actually listed the things to buy for myself this year, as promised, one of those things will be mine. Yesterday, I went back to Zara again and the shops started to take the sales items off the hangers. I was like, I couldn’t pass it up.

Seriously, I was dreading for the day to come. Everyone at work is being nice and I’ve already received a free coupon from the company for the hard works I’ve contributed in my Department as a trainer so I might be using that coupon for a dinner for two, three and a salmon, but it feels different somehow. I’m expecting people will eventually ask me about my plans this weekend but right now I am debating on calling everything off.

I don’t know why I let things bother me so much. But I think it’s nice to have it acknowledged at least. Without a doubt my birthday is significant - it marks the anniversary of my entry into the world. So it is a day fit for celebrating and remembering. Better yet, I’ll take a tiny moment to reflect on the deeper meaning of my birthday, express my gratitude and extend my thoughts to my parents, for I would not be here to celebrate it without their boundless love and kindness.

So what do you normally do on your birthday?

    advance happy birthday K!

looking back, i actually do not quite remember how i usually approached my birthday. but one thing’s for sure, i’m not really big on it. i’m neither the perky nor the solitary type. it’s okay if i’m greeted or remembered, okay lang din kung hindi. what’s important is i’m with my family :)

Vina, same here, ok lang kapag na-alala, okay din kahit wala, I have matured so I am not spending just to celebrate. I’m sure I will not miss a birthday bonuses, like chatting with friends online, calling home. Nice, but nothing beats a free something just for me, the birthday soul. So I will spend a few minutes naked in the mirror, look at my butt and jump! Hahaha. Thanks for the greetings, how sweet of you.

Sha, to reach the hundred years old? Malasahan ko pa kaya ang beer nun? Yes I did get the card, I think I mentioned that on my previous post, thank you so much. Since I got the free voucher, the idea is just to spend it in the resto with no other obligation but book a table, call 2 of my friends and spend the normalness of the day. The thing is, sometimes dumadami lang bigla yung kaibigan mo kapag may handaan diba?

Sachiko, that’s very sweet of them to pamper you with love. It’s something that we normally do to our parents din - the thing is, January is a big month for us, 2 of my sisters are celebrating, and it’s also my parents Wedding Anniversary so usually, get-together. Now that we are grown-ups, it’s not easy to do the usual rituals. Thanks sa greetings.

NOrmaly I go out for a diner whith my boyfriend. Not normaly, I can tell you my best ever birthday party. Wen I turned my _0 my boyfriend made a suprise party for me, in San Sebastian, we went ther for the film festival. At then we went to a restaurant for diner and there were all my friends from all over spain, my brother, cousins, and some friends from London, NYC, LA. It took him a few month arranging all that. In the table next to us was having diner the jury of the festival, including the president Angelica Huston. Then we party all night untill 8 o´clock in the morning.

inthesity, sounds like fun and imagine it took him a month for the preparation. Grand, I may say. I can’t remember exactly the year that stands out in my mind as the most particularly memorable birthday but I think it was when I got so drunk after a few shots of tequilas and later blow the shit up in the crowd. I believe that was the last time that I ever really spend my birthday.

i hate bdays! especially mine. I don’t like being reminded that I am getting old. I used to look forward to my birthday until I turned 18 and realized I won’t have those nice kiddie parties anymore. Now it’s more inuman than anything else. Last year, my bday was an ordinary day. I ended up ranting instead of raving. This year, I will make it a point to celebrate my day in style. Afterall, out of 265 days in a year, I only get to have one special day for me!

I wish you the best this year, K! Do what you really want to do on your special day. Nobody can stop you! :D

Dyuke, hahaha I think I remembered that incident, you cooked and you hubby went home soaking wet with the camera on his suit? Yun ba yun? Teka *esep esep*, nagluto ka sa bahay at mali yung ginawa mo? Hahaha anyways, when I’m growing up, my birthdays were never really treated special. What matters is that I don’t look the days over (although sometimes I ask, life is getting so fast) but really I’m lousy in preparation, so I don’t spend too much energy on my birthdays. Sa atin naman inuman ng inuman, sawa na ako nyan since college pa. End of the day, sakit sa ulo. Thanks for the greetings.

K, let me cook you a gourmet dinner on your birthday complete with wine. Would this make your day? How about baked salmon, spanish rice, steamed veggies, fresh green salad, and home-made apple pie topped with french vanilla ice cream.

Feliz Cumpleanos! Happy 30th birthday, K.

i work on my birthdays … lol. seriously, i still spend them with family, just something simple like dinner.

so, tell us. when are you going to start counting backwards?

  12. Wavatar K on 23.01.2007 at 16:30 Post reply

Belle, *raising hands* I want a grilled salmon sitting on top a green leafy salad. Syempre if you are in Bicol, di pwedeng mawala ang “leche flan” at buko salad. I do love it there, simpleng handaan pero it’s fun! … pause* Ok, I will make a wish now. *wink*. Thanks for the virtual food.

J, counting backwards? I do see something different about my age but my feelings hasn’t changed over the years. People say, I do look younger than my age. So I believe in the saying that “with each new day comes an opportunity for a new beginning”. Thanks, J.

Have a good dinner with the wife in a good restaurant and spend the rest of the evening together, after I have gotten my prezzies.

  14. Wavatar K on 24.01.2007 at 02:45 Post reply

Range, nothing as grand as spending it with someone you love. I would be pleased too.

Well I’d say that sometimes when people say that they don’t want to “celebrate” they mean they don’t want some huge ordeal of a party where they have to talk to tons of people and become the “talk of the town”. Now my idea of “big celebration” is book a table with a friend and get a big dessert.

Happy birthday K! :) when is the actual day, if you don’t mind me asking?
so…did you get to buy the shoes you wanted or were looking for?

as for me, my birthdays are usually spent with either family, friends or a loved one :) I love lotsa presents and parties when I was younger but now…a mellow and quiet dinner would be sufficient ;)
take care n have a great day! *hugs*

    hi!

Happy birthday! I know it’s been a long time, I do remember your birthday and decided to look for your blog spot instead of greeting you through email. I remember how we used to spend our birthdays in HK. We usually eat out and hang out at LKF. I miss those days and the rest of the group.

I spent my last year’s birthday shopping… Hope you’ll get those gorgeous shoes from Tod’s.

    take care,

    masel

Hi C, the actual day was the date you posted your comment (look there). The shoes can wait later, and once I got it, I’ll flaunt it here. Give me some time to decide whether to get the Tods or not. I looked at the other Shops and I found a similar loafers from “Car Shoes”, they are adorably cheaper.

Masel, how the hell did you find me? Hint! Hint! (I know where…) Thanks for the greetings. I just read your emails and learnt that you are now in the States. Everything back here is the same old thing, less “gimiks” pero ok lang, we still hang out with the Casillano’s when we have time. We miss you here. No kidding!

Hi EAR, I clicked that link - what the… LG Prada? The name is such a teaser. Oh don’t worry, I’ll not buy a new cellphone this early. But thank you for letting me know about the product.

Rho, thanks. That’s what I did - spend it with close friends alone.

Marni, not the happiest (I sure can’t remember I had) but it made me smile at least. Thanks.

if anything, i always feel reflective when my birthday comes around. i look back at my life and see what has happened, what i’ve accomplished, or what i haven’t accomplished (yet!). but there was a time when, yeah, i felt na nasa point of no return na ako…. na tipong hindi na nga talaga ako bata! pero ganun talaga, you just have to ride with it :)
pero, i always make it a point to celebrate. always! kahit cake and pancit lang (and a brand new purse!) oks na ako :) i guess, i just feel na i have to be thankful for the extra year of life i’ve been blessed with.

so here’s a very belated happy birthday greeting! may you be able to purchase those pretty shoes and wear them until your handsome geriatric years :) *wink*
