Analysts in Hong Kong said that Apple’s challenge would be in filling huge orders in Asia. The mainland is likely to play a key role as the centre of Apple’s regional manufacturing and component supply chain.

It’s iPod digital music players are made in mainland plants by Taiwanese contractor Foxconn Electronics. German firm Balda, supplier of the iPhone’s touch-screen, runs a display manufacturing joint venture in Xiamen.

So the rumor is true, the iPhone, which is expected to come out in June 2007 in USA, Europe in the fourth quarter and Asia in 2008 has finally arrived. Too often, I always get excited when there’s a new gadget coming in the market, especially cellphones.

The Apple iPhone is not just a phone - it is a phone, music player, video player, internet device, and camera all in one. Unlike rivals such as the ‘bit too corporate gadget’ Blackberry or Palm’s Treo, it has no keypad. Instead, it employs a touch screen that changes with use. For example, when you use it as a phone, it features a numeric pad; and when browsing music, it scrolls through album covers. Simply divine! It is no doubt the new object of desire! And I’m sure, once you have the thing, you will want to carry it all the time.

But wait a minute, does the built-in camera of an iPhone can get the same magic as my Samsung or a Nokia? How about the battery? If you have an iPod, the battery is not replaceable. When I bought it few years ago, it didn’t work after a week, so I had to return it and even lost all my songs. So imagine an iPhone, if the battery is busted, what do you do? Buy a new one? Now that sucks. I still want to consider if the software is easy to use. Sometimes, some phones with too many features tend to hang a lot.

With the new combination of iPod and a mobile phone, no doubt it will attract young buyers in Hong Kong comes 2008. Yet, I still have to wait and see.

iPhone is everywhere in the local news today. A colleague rushed to me showing the newspaper that says about this gadget. I was not surprised because I heard alot about this phone since March last year, if you search the net on the iPhone images, you’ll see a lot of different handset designs. People couldn’t figure out exactly the real designs, so it was nothing more like “I wish the phone will look like this, that…”. I’m not really into 3G since not many people opt for that here, so it’s not my general option in case I buy this kind of gadget. What you can do is wait, read about it in the net later and see what people are talking. I believe, too much hype can make you expect more, so don’t rush.

GOSH…yeah…everyone’s buzzing away about the new IPhone :) I’d love to get it…coz it is about time I switch to a new phone however the cost and battery life will be major setbacks in my final decision (hehe)

yes, I am quite a scrooge when it comes to such gadgets! ;P

C, people these days will always look for the “looks and functionality” of a cellphone. I’m sure iPhone will be everyone’s TOP of their list these days.

Yes, it’s interesting to see how this will go. No doubt they will sell even though there are many shortcomings.

Wengestein, yes there are few disadvantages, one of course it has no removable battery. If the battery is broken, you send the phone to Apple. I’m not complaining at all or hating this phone, just want to look what’s the bad and good of the phone. Well after all I still have half a year to go until the device is actually released in Asia. So I think Apple is still up to some changes and improvements.

i got the keynote log if you want to read it (the whole iphone presentation). got a few pictures of the iphone as well.

Apple got working demos of it. Steve presented it at the Keynote. It was soo cool. I wonder if he actually called Starbucks for real. Cause he said 4000 latte to go :p

I’d wait for it though since Apple never worked with cellphone before. It’s way behind in terms of handphone technology.

But yes the phone is using OSX. So you got the quartz tech inside.

Ear, I know you gonna write about the Apple. I’ve read a few lines in your presentation but I think they are typically overpriced. And no-no to the touch-screen. What happens if you are using text messages everyday? That’s going to be a pain in the ass.

K: Yeah, I just want to flush out the good and bad from this phone. In six months it’ll be released. In six months, a lot of advancements in technology can happen, so I’m not sure if they should’ve announced it that early.

speaking of which… the Iphone can’t be used by girls with long nails. hahaha

Wengistein, one of the guys in my department even tried the e-bay and see what’s there to offer, apparently, it is not available here yet so what people really say around here is that, it’s EXPENSIVE.

Ear, for some reason, I’ve read your earlier comments (I have no idea why your IP is recognized by akismet as “spam”?) but accidentally deleted it along with the spams, my apologies.

I think I’m not convinced with the new iphone. I dunno why.

Because you have your own rule, you’re not a gadget-freak. Imagine the many young generations here in HK, it seems that every week new gadgets are popping up in the market place and they’ll absolutely spend their quality time with the newest “toy” in Computer shop. Even my nephews told me to try the new revolutionized Nintendo Gameboy known as NDS which the way games are played with ultra-bright dual screens? I have no idea what they were saying until they showed me the gadget, a crispy HK$1400.00 a piece, imagine that?

The iPhone will retail at 499/599 USD from Cingular Wireless in the USA in June. I loved the vid of the interface but will not be getting one either. I just can’t wait for the next generation iPods though. If the iPhone is a taste, then they will be really cool.

The Nokia N95 has a 5MP camera. Maybe the interface isn’t as snazzy, but I am sure it is a better phone. I have read that the iPhone is only a GSM phone, not CDMA.

My guess is that texting and using the virtual keyboard will get old really fast on a keyless phone.

Let’s wait awhile. Sometimes I find it absurd when people say it’s from Apple, one thinks it’s always the BEST product. Since it’s their first gadget for cellphones, I can’t tell much about it unless I see it myself up close and personal and try it myself, comes next year.

Ugh I am so gonna buy that phone once it reaches here ditching my treo in the process. Though I might be discouraged if the reviews of that phone will not be as good as it looks like the certain motorola razr. But still I am always up to date with trends here and I dont want to fall behind

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jan 12, 2007

Charles, I know you would. Nowadays, I stay away from the gadgets.. but wait a sec, I need a new digital cam. Hahaha.
