Seaweed crackers makes me quit smoking

crackersIt’s been a week now after the smoking ban on indoor eating and entertainment venues across Hong Kong has come into effect since January 1. Of course the smoking area in our cafeteria was dismantled ealier on, so there is no way I can excuse myself to smoke at all. Honestly, I stopped for almost a week now. Thanks God on cheese crackers.

Well, I have recently discovered the joy of eating crackers that helps me stop the cravings on smoking. I still do sneak away from my desk to the canteen but this time by getting a few piece of small pack of cheese and splat it away on my seaweed wrap rice cracker. I bought a pack of these crackers and stored them in my locker in case I crave for a smoke. The process of making cheese crackers is very simple. I only use my barehand and towel paper, unpacked the cracker & presto, an instant appetizer.

The other day, I went to the Muji Shop in Causeway Bay to look for a cashmere sweater and guess what I found? Crackers! Crackers! Crackers! And a lot more. They have varieties of crackers and the one that I really like is the rice cracker with seaweeds minus the cheese. These are stick-shaped Japanese rice crackers, wrapped in seaweed. The crackers themselves are good, and I doubt anybody would have much problem with them. Some people might not like the taste of the seaweed, so you could try what I did and peel off the seaweed. This was largely successful, as most of it peeled off pretty easily. There was some seaweed taste from the remaining seaweed that I wouldn’t peel off, but overall it was still good, as the rice cracker taste dominated. But you know, eating cheese cracker for snacks is a complete joy because it’s not only delicious, but imagine how much my body loves it and how it puts a simple ingredient to good use.

I learned that crackers can also help fix your ulcer? How true is that? Can you also get cancer by eating crackers too much? Well now that there’s a new grocery shop at The Landmark in Central called 360 (I’ve been trying to look for the site and could not find it, so frustrating) side by side Harvey Nichols, one of the most prestigious international fashion store, sells organic foods. I’d say they have the best cheese that is good for the budget to serve on grain crackers than the “cheese food” you can find in an ordinary groceries. Kraft cheese is notorious about this with their cheaper cheeses so it’s probably not good for me. Believe it or not, my stomach feels fine and my energy isn’t sapped at all. I think I’m going organic.

Now that I’m getting positive with the Quit Smoking, I think this is the time to take charge of my health by eating better and being more physically active. Even small changes will help you look and feel your best, right?

Inthesity, point taken but you know, for the first time I felt so proud about it. I just can’t imagine this is happening. Thanks for the input tho.

Kudos to your desire to quit smoking. My husband did it cold turkey many years back which posed hardships on the body. Nowadays, patch is available and it helps you deal with the craving easy and you don’t have the pain that you go through with quitting cold turkey.

Stay away from alcohol beverages because they make you want to light cigarettes. Stay away from other smokers as they will try to trip you up if they see that you might succeed. Eat food that are bland food so it will not stimulate your taste buds.

    I am happy for you!

Belle, I am not alcoholic. I can only enjoy a glass of Reds, that’s all. I started to act like a real adult and I usually listen to people who nags me to quit. I think I can. Thanks for the words.

Good for you, quitting smoking is hard. I have met a ton of smokers who say they have stopped smoking only to puff up 10 cigarettes in a bar when they are drinking. In my book, it’s black or white. If you have smoked in the last two years, you are a smoker. If you have stopped smoking for at least 6 months without falling off the wagon, you have become a non-smoker. That is also how insurance companies work.

Wengestein, what’s a pwnage? Wow that’s a new “word for thought”, cheese crackers that is.

Range, just 6 months? I think I can make it happen. Wish me luck.

Ear, yes you and your encouragement. I’m finally getting the habit of being busy, do something productive & exercise (I dance before I go for a shower, I hope that counts). So I’m just sharing a bit of excitement here. Thanks ear.

I love Zuji! I like the crackers they sell there. I even like the chocolates! Harvey Nichols is way over my budget so I stick with the japanese store.
    Good luck on quitting smoking!

Duke, oh no I don’t shop at Harvey Nichols (even on a sale period). I love to browse to these cool shopping malls, you know free try-on on perfumes too, no one will give you a weird look and I can smell good in one day. The Muji shop has nice underwears btw, so I love the brand.

Tita Grace, we can make it! If others can, why can’t we?

Hahaha inthesity, it’s a Filipino word for “Uncle” and a “Tita” for a “Auntie” - a kind of respect to the elders but maybe because I’m older, that’s why Grace calls me that way. I am NOT THAT OLD, bah!

Asha, nah it’s OK, maybe I was overwhelmed from the fact that it’s isn’t only me quitting here, the whole HK society. I know you’re always there to support me.

  16. Wavatar inthesity on 10.01.2007 at 06:26 Post reply

We use the same words for the same people, aunt is tía and a lot of people sai tita, and uncle is tio, and a lot of people say tito. And is the same. And for sure I´m older than you.

  17. Wavatar K on 11.01.2007 at 00:52 Post reply

Yes we also (and still) use Tia or Tio (Tiya/Tiyo, with the “y”). Some of the words we use in our provincial dialect in the Philippines has “spanish” words. We use a lot of spanish words on “things” such as, lamesa (table), kutsarita (spoon), etc. Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards many many years ago. In school during my college years, I took Spanish subject and honestly, I almost caught myself wondering how the hell the Spaniards managed to make sense of anything, that is learning the language.

Try my inthesity now and then. You can find post that have two or three paragraphs in English under the english&thesity category. It´s not as fun as in spanish but…
    thanks for you link.

K, lo siento, solo quiero practicar mi espanol con inthesity. Hope you don’t mind.

inthesity, believe it or not, your english is better than my Spanish. I can’t remember anything I learned from school - it’s been ages. I’m glad that you can pick something in my blog and learned a few and I will promise to come and read your english posts from now on. Thanks.

Belle, aba asteg ka, marunong ka pala. OK here’s my translation: You said to her, “I know Spanish, me and you are from the same province in Catanduanes”. You said to me, “You can practice your Spanish with inthesity”.

    Tama?
