Post holidays sales can cheer retailers

No doubt that your bank accounts needs a break from all that Christmas spending. Although I didn’t freak out knowing a lot of shops went on sales as low as 30% off before the holidays, I think it’s about time to shop for myself.
I believe many retail stores did not meet sales goals, so now some retailers are turning to post-Christmas business to make this year the beginning of the best sales. Ask me why? I was at Times Square the other day and you wouldn’t believed that so many people have been spending their time entirely in all major stores. The costumers at Zara shops were in chaos, all items are on 50% off. I was almost tempted to buy a few jackets but the weather seemed a bit inconsistent so I thought thick jackets are way too out of fashion.
At the Lane Crawford, Hong Kong’s leading specialty fashion store, was also on a big sale. Hugo Boss brand was so alarming. I tried a few shirts on but it still is expensive as much as I wanted to buy one of their leather belts. A new exclusive brand was launched earlier from Vintage Vandal by Steve Vintage garments are also sold on 50% off. The original Ralph Lauren cashmere was “vandalized” with an original handcrafted design by Steve himself. So I tried it on and decided to buy it. The disappointment however is that, the weather is not really cold these days. But there are some army jackets and jeans that looks very stylish. It’s so tempting to buy these kind of garments since I like dirty-looking style, it’s an image that can make an impact.
French Connection UK (FCUK) is another brand that I enjoy visiting. Except for the many cashmeres and jackets, their round-neck cotton shirt is good for the wallet. But of course I skip the shop since everyone else just doesn’t care about the brands anymore when it’s winter. No one would ever noticed anything what clothes you’re wearing. Few weeks from now, we are expecting more super sales for the Chinese New Year. Geez, talking about saving, I just can’t blink my eye anymore and one minute later all these are going to freak me out comes end of January.
It’s also a good time to score a deal on large electronics. Things like big-screen televisions, DVD players and home theater systems that are traditionally pushed very hard during holidays, prices are slashed. I’m very curious now as to how I’m going to budget on other spending along with my tax return. What can you get? Electronics are also on sale from 20-50%. And check out the prices on computers and laptops. They are moving so fast all of the time, so people are going to see major price drops. Now I really feel a lot of pressure moving on in my brain.
What about perfumes? I need a list again.

wow… shop shop shop, shop till you drop
Hong Kong is really a good place to shop especially when come to the SALES!!!!
Lucky me that due to how UGLY I look so I hardly shops now a days… but my dear remember your new year RESOLUTION
Save and spend wisely
I hope this might help u to think before u buy haha!!!
btw can I sent you a list that the things I want to buy?? hahaha!!!!
I went shopping with the girls a week after Christmas. I pampered myself with good quality make-up and pair of denim pants. The girls bought all kinds of stuff.
Actually, I bought a Sony A100 prior to Christmas. It cost quite a bit of money so my husband and I decided not to give each other presents. So, I didn’t have anything for him. On Christmas day, there was a huge box lying down next to our Christmas tree that had my name on it. It came from my husband. I felt so embarrassed with nothing to give him back.
For perfume, my favorite is Pink by Victoria Secret. And it usually disappear when I go home in Catanduanes because a relative want it so bad and I don’t have a heart to say NO.
Anyway, it is always nice to shop on sale…anything to stretch the dollar further.
Vince it doesn’t matter how ugly you look it’s how “thick” your wallet really is, hahaha. Yup speaking of “saving” - if you’re in HK you’ll pretty much break your promise once in a while. I’m cheap so don’t expect me to buy those expensive brands (except when on sale/or during pay day) because I need to feed some hungry mouths besides myself.
Belle, quite frankly, I prefer to shop during the Chinese New Year dito - mas super sale down to 70%. At the same time, I get the *lai-see* (traditional red enevelope with ca$h). I think mas ok bumili ng electronics dito (including cellphones).
Hahaha di ka rin nakakalusot sa “Pa-Arbor” trend sa atin. I really don’t mind giving away old jeans, wag lang Tag H. ko. Pag sinanay mo sila, it’s the usual “greetings” kapag umuuwi ka, hehehe. Nowadays, mas wiser na mga kapatid ko, they prefer “ca$$h” para may pang-load sa cell.
post holiday sales are always a blast especially here when prices plunge extremely low and gives me this ecstatic feeling. Anyway Happy New Year to you dear!
Hey K! Happy New Year!!!!
Shopping is sooooo addictive!
I’m also an FCUK nut!
Heym I’m on the lookout for another new camera. Yeah I know, I can’t be happy with anything, can I?
I’m looking for a vote: Canon EOD400D, Nikon D40 or Sony A100
????
Hey Charles, welcome back! I need extra effort to get the extra bonus this month then I’ll tell you what I’m buying. Happy New Year to you too.
Pep, how was your Xmas and the New Year? You’re planning for a new toy again? What happened with the…? Well, I’ve been thinking the same thing actually. Take a look at my choices, yet I’m still undecided. Canon looks appealing really.
What’s really hot in Australia right now is heaps of patterns and colours mixed together. It looks good as long as you don’t go over and make yourself look like you came out of a paint shop that went haywire. I really like the fashion from Australian designers, they’re pretty good themselves.
PS. Check out The Satoralist. I think there are some great pieces of clothing there that could inspire you.
if there’s something i will buy this year, it would have to be a new mobile phone. my moto c380 is ready to retire with its constant bogging down etc. if there’s a luxury purchase i want to make this year, it would be a video camera. good luck na lang.
hugs and kisses!
Wengistien, thanks for the link. In HK, winter months is the most trendiest season ever, you will find people dressing up pretty much everyday even if the cold weather only goes down to 9 degrees. And I don’t really enjoy that much since I don’t spend my money on leather jackets, etc but I can still survive it.
JC, the new slim video camera these days is worth around Php 30K up but I still opt for a digital camera. I don’t find video exciting to carry around in this city, I’ll leave that for the tourists. Kaya mong bumili nyan syempre.
I love post holiday shopping! Everything is on sale! I guess that’s one of the things I miss about HK!
Make your bday shopping list na!
Duke, food tripping is the other option here really - shopping are the past time of HKneans (excluding me, cuz I prefer window shopping all the time) and I easily appreciate the fact na kapag sale talaga, di lang Causeway Bay area, lahat ng malls tinatapon na ang mga hangers sa sobrang Sales hehehe. Pero bakit ni minsan ang LV hindi mag sale - masyado silang pricey at high maintenance ang mga Chinese. Imagine a leather (sting) shoes in LV could cost HKG$11K? Ano yun gold? Kaaway ko ang shop na yan, my last wallet purchase there was last mellinium pa, di mapalit palitan.
nawala comment ko… anyway london would be the best place now. here in italy i heard the sales will start next week am eyeing a skirt printed.. at stefanel
also dear… i already splurged on 2 jackets.
one overcoat elegant charcoal grey and one double breasted button hip length naval style.
as for cameras hmmm still comparing prices of canon ixus900Ti…
perfume am a channel girl.
In Taiwan, we didn’t shop that much. I got myself a new desktop computer in November and a 22″ widescreen LCD Viewsonic screen. In December, I got a Nikon D200 DSLR camera, so Christmas was quiet. Also, a lot of goods were sold out. We gave our friends scarves and socks.
We are still going to Thailand for Chinese New Year, at least that is settled. After that, I will get myself a new backpack for all our photo equipment and all my clothes, though I am not planning on taking a lot with me. If I can, I will try and get a new small laptop before I leave in February, but those plans aren’t looking too good right now.
Sha, please do not mention London, that’s one of the many destinations I really dreamt to visit (in the future kapag nanalo ako sa lottery) basta sa Europe. Kelan kaya ako makakarating diyan?
I saw your new Canon DSLR camera. Asteeeegggg! Pahawak ng lens.
Range, which is which, Canon or Nikon digital camera for me? I’ve been wanting to purchase one, the cheapest but good quality pictures. I’m still thinking for the laptop MacBook. Can’t wait for the Chinese New Year (extra money) from red pockets - I’m sure you’ll enjoy the Chinese New Year.
i loooooove saaaaaales!!!!
i’d be bankrupt if i lived in HK.
so many camera shops there too.
and shoes.
and clothes.
Zara!!!
gasp! i’m hyperventilating.
So many cameras too choose from. Sa dami di ka na makadecide kung alin ang maganda. I don’t know if this is a good investment pero dahil mahilig ka sa photography, BUY NA!
Zara on Sale is like an equivalent of Giordano & G2000 shops na. European brands are topping up on sales. You won’t believe it’s consider rude to even leave the shops without a paper bag. I still prefer A|X shop when it comes to shirts & jeans. I still like to have one Cavalli shirt pero mahirap makibagay sa mga Chinese, di kaya ng aking plastic. Hehehe. I even saw Dawn Zulueta upon leaving the shop at Lane Crawford - ganda pala nya in person. Baduy kung yayain ko syang mag pa picture diba? Sayang!
Hello and happy new year, K! Thanks for leaving me a note. This is a fab blog, I’ll definitely come back to say hello now and then and see what you’re up to
All the best, Cynthia
Hi Cynth, appreciate your short visit really. I’ve been your “silent reader” where I stumbled your blog from RBJ then decided to add you in. Will hear from you again. Cheers!
Hey K,
how’s internet connection over there? is it affected by the earthquake near taiwan?
ooo i can enter comments again. yay!! sorry for flooding :p
btw did you get my e-cards?
Hi ear, the connection is now back to normal, thanks God for people who, comes hell and high waters fixed the “lines”. On the other hand, Nancy, my wireless buddy is acting “strange”. Strange in a way that she’s smoothly on a right track, no more hang ups.
I did get your e-card THANK YOU so much. Good to hear from you EAR. I did miss you around here, seriously. Happy new year!
Hey K, I would probably go with a Canon Powershot SD900 which is a 10 MP ISO 1600 capable point and shoot. It must be quite expensive. It only has a 2.5″ screen, but that is fine for its size.
As much as I would like to get one, it seems a waste since we do have a small 3 year old 5.1 MP Sony Cybershot that takes great pictures and 2 DSLRs in the family; my new Nikon D200 and my wife’s 4 year old Fuji S2 Pro. I would rather spend that money on a new lens for my DSLR than a new point and shoot. In Taiwan, the Fujis and Canons have been doing quite well, those whose back is almost just a screen. I find the screen OK, but when I take pictures, I rarely check on the screen to see if the pictures are good. I might do this after I have shot 200 pics to eliminate the worse ones, but still. As much as I wanted a giant screen before, I find that it just eats up the battery life of the camera nowadays.
