Just for fun.

I entered at Beng Hafner’s Pakuwelang Pinoy Sa Pasko game a few days ago. It was more or so like a get-to-know-me question game. She asked about her tats and I was completely clueless because I have not seen her pictures nekid just yet. Well, the prizes she’s giving out were definately “extravagant”, a FREE hosting domain was up for grabs and other gift packs. So I thought, it’s alright to get the latter besides it’s coming from a very nice blog friend in Germany and it’s free. Infact I’m probably good at guessing game, so I gave it a try.

Honestly, I’ve never won anything in any sort of draw before. Even during our Staff Christmas Party, we always have this Round Trip Ticket raffle draw and I always go home empty handed. What am I suppose to do? I am a person who’s really not desperate to win. But now, to break that record, I did. And I won the 2nd prize. Sensational.

Second Prize - 1 Free Hosting as sub domain of http://www.blog-o-holics.com. Your URL on the net would be http://yourname.blog-o-holics.com or http://www.blog-o-holics.com/yourname

* Space - You will get 100MB of space but also keep in mind that your email account and databases will take up space.
* MySQL Databases - You have 1 database available.
* Bandwidth - 2,000 MB bandwidth (Monthly)
* Email Account - If needed, you can have your own email account yourname@blog-o-holics.com
.

Speaking of games, remember we had an activity at Sai Kung for some water sports? Our team didn’t win that day, but despite of, I enjoyed the Team Building activity during a typhoon signal #1. The HR gave us some pictures of the event which I’ve forgotten to download a few months back. I’ve also added a few shots from our recent Ngong Ping 360 activity.

Trust me, I still irk and laugh at the same time looking at my skinny hairy legs. You see, in Hong Kong people loves to pose in a camera with that silly Peace Sign. I find it weird - but to them, it’s something that makes them look cool. So I joined in the fun.

To Ate Beng, Thank you so much for the prize. Kahit na malungkot ang magiging Pasko ko, I still believe in Santa - you are my Santa Claus this year. You sprinkled me with a magic dust and lights my blog (with that header) in amazement. You enlightened me with the spirit of giving, with the magic of Christmas, and a wish to have one time of the year when truly anything is possible. And Yes, I do believe in Santa Claus. I am really happy. Fo’reals!

Well, I have noticed that all of the pictures of the kids that I teach, in practically all of them, the kids are holding up a peace sign. From ages 3 an onward, they all do it.

I find it a bit cute. I have rarely won anything in contests. Since I have a background in Mathematics, I find the whole concept of lotteries a bit bad. (You have better odds of getting hit twice by lightning in a row than winning the lottery, did you know that?)

But contests are fun, you might win. In Taiwan, there is a state run lottery system that gives away cash every two months. You have to check all your receipts from all of your shopping to see if you won. You enter it by shopping in stores. It’s free. It’s funny, the wife checked all of the receipts. I have a habit of keeping them all.

Hallo K! Congratulations on winning ate Beng’s contest. That is so nice of her to arrange such a contest. Seems you are having fun. Nice photos and I noticed on one of your photos. Is that a cig?

You know, I’ve also always wondered about that peace sign that they do in photos… no offence, but it seriously looks so lame.

Can I call you “Sir Range“? I am kind of immune already with the fact that I am just not the luckiest person when it comes to things like these. Even on lottery, I find it quite a waste of money but really in the end it’s just a matter of having fun and the thrill of taking risks in joining. Well the important thing is never giving up, right?

It says a number of Asian people make the peace sign when posing on a photographs and for me that’s something odd. It’s not particular in Chinese, even Japanese do these too. I don’t know if they are aware of the significance of the symbol but I think it’s the cultural thing. I thought I was the only one that noticed it.

Charles. No, it’s not a cigarette, smoking in that open-air place is never allowed. I don’t understand it but I think because it’s a water-sport school for kids, they banned people from smoking anywhere to make it look “environmental-friendly”. I was holding a pen marker actually.

Wengistein, I agree with you. It’s even more popular with stars in Hong Kong who avoids paparazzis by covering their face with a peace sign.

Dear Knoiz,

I was actually hoping you would win the first prize. Yes, I am being biased but I think you deserve it more than anybodyelse. As in fact as the ‘result’ turned out different, I purposely changed the second prize because I know that winning a free Wordpress theme is useless for you since you don’t have the possibility to use it on your site.

Thank you very much for the kind words you wrote above. At huwag ka nang malungkot ngayong Pasko. Your family are in safety and they are with you spiritually, and there are a lot of people who cares for you, each on their own ways.

P.S

You mentioned about three columns theme. Where do you want to have the sidebars aligned, left and right or both on the right? Yon bang email addy na ginamit mo doon sa comment is active? I’m going to send you your login details kasi. Btw, I’ve setup your WP already and is now ready for you to occupy :)

Hi ear, yes how sweet of her to give away free hosting domain. I’m sure I will be in the good hands of Beng. She is still doing something with the account and once they are accessible, please share your ideas on what to do with it but I’m sure I’ll use it for something else. Perhaps, an extension of this blogging rituals? Maybe. The bandwidth thingie, you know it still reminds me of my old domain. I’ll let you know when the new domain starts running.

Ate Beng, Yes I was surprised nga dahil sa revised prizes mo. Nabigla ako. Pero kahit di naman ako nanalo doon, I still like to play with your game, nag research talaga ako dun sa tattoo mo kaya hinalukay ko ang Archives ng blog mo hahaha. Thank you for the thoughts. And oh, I sent you an email regarding the log-in passwords. I’m using knoizki dot yahoo dot com as my blogging account. Thanks again, Ate. God Bless!

Ika nga kasabihan, “good things comes to those who waits”.

i wish we had some team building activity here… but not as strenuous. hehe.

2006-12-13 13:30:15

Hi, congrats on your win. (:
I noticed you used flickr for your photo uploads. May I know how do you link the photos from your flickr to wordpress in thumbnail format because I only know how to do so by uploading onto wordpress’, sadly. Thank you for your help. (:

Dez, it’s an additional workload, kahit di ko gusto, cge na lang. The problem kasi with our team building eh puro Chinese kasama ko. I can’t really depend too much with the HR for the translation dahil magisang Pinoy lang ako dun. Buti na lang resourceful din ako, “action speaks louder”, kaya sign language does a lot of help. Hahaha.

Hey Dave, thanks for the precious click. My pictures are from flickr, I don’t choose wp.com to store my photos (except for some tiny image at my sidebars) because of the limited space. Sign-in to your flickr account, click one photo and click on the “all sizes” option. Then it will show you different sizes from square, thumbnail, small, medium or large to view the picture. I choose “thumbnail” so it would fit on my post (depending how many pictures you want in your post). Below the pictures say if you choose “thumbnail”, there’s a html link to it that you can copy and paste for your blog entry (I choose option #1). But be sure that the picture is a file-shared so that your reader can click (see a bigger size image) to the link in your photo page. Or choose #2 if you just want to show a static picture without the link. Hope that helps.

Congrats on the contest K.

But like duh, even here, they never stop with the peace sign. Haha.

Peace :P

2006-12-14 09:55:19

Hi K, thank you so much! Didn’t expect a reply straight back on my own wp. (: May I ask another question? How do you align your thumbnails so neatly such as in this entry? Are there any spacings b/w thumbnails when you first placed them on the rich text editor?
Thank you.

2006-12-14 15:33:45

Hahaha Asha, I am certainly not worried about the peace sign, at least there’s a positive effect in it. Well in the Philippines, the “L” sign is being used nationwide during the Presidential Election (means “Let’s Fight”) so it’s a powerful sign. Another traits of Filipinos is that we also uses our lips to point something when one is asking for a direction. So how about the dirty middle finger? How often do you use it?

Hi Dave, you’re welcome. I suggest you look for a better Template for your blog. I like K2 because it gives justice to the images when posting. I don’t use text editor, I lined up 4 images on each row, the theme automatically alined it for you including the space breaks.

2006-12-14 19:15:08

I love K2 too. The thing about wp templates’ that they don’t allow users to customise fonts. K2 has the nice border for photos and I think their comment box rocks too. I guess I’ll look around for more templates to be posted, maybe I’ll change back to K2…

Try the Blix Theme, that’s second best choice that I personally like in the wp.com themes.

2006-12-16 02:06:57

congrats, k!

teka lang. Is it just me or 3 times kang nag change outfit sa outing nyo?

K
2006-12-16 02:48:49

Hi Duke, considering water sports, all of us brought extra clothes to wear after the game. Dahil organized ako pagdating sa outing, always prepared. The other few shots, it was on another activity, as much as possible I like the idea of going “luggage-less” masyadong “ma-fan” kapag daming dala dala.
