On the news: HK’s Star Ferry Relocating

One of my favourite icon of Hong Kong is getting set to move to its new location.
From The Standard newspaper.
At the stroke of midnight on November 11, as the clock on the 49-year-old tower chimes, four ferries will set sail for one last time from the Central landmark to Tsim Sha Tsui.
Locals will then get a final chance to see the building bathed in light before workers shut off the electricity.
Once the terminal moves from the original place, office workers elbowing past leisurely tourists, including myself will walk at least 15-minute away to the new terminal at rush hour making its way to a larger space and road bypass. I guess reclamation is one the delimmas for Hong Kong. One day, I will not be surprise that the entire Harbour will shrink and turned it into another extension of the HK Island. Some people say reclamation is spoiling the city’s natural beauty and ruining its biggest natural assest, the harbour itself.
Surely I’ll miss the old ferry but on the good side, it will also ease traffic congestion in Central and will make the ferries another bigger tourist attraction. At the moment, at HK$1.70 a ride on the lower deck, the cross-harbour trip is a rare bargain in one of the world’s most expensive cities - and I’m certain that the Government will have the attempt to raise fares until the new ferry terminal opens in early January 2007, next year.
And of course, the new terminals will floors for shopping and dining facilities, with a rooftop beer garden on the Kowloon side and a Star Ferry exhibition on the island side. What do you expect in Hong Kong? More shopping malls.
Do you think I will still take the ferry? Well of course, I like walking around Central. Thanks to my Samsung.
Now that you have read my post, why not leave a comment? And that’s the most coolest thing EVER! Still bored? Read more random post here. Thanks for the visit.

at least you have a ferry for transportation. Here in Hawaii, they are trying to bring the ferry service for inter-island travel as an alternative to flying however, there are some who oppose to it. Me, it would be nice to have a ferry system, I don’t mind it being longer as long as it’s cheaper and we can travel to the other islands more frequently and can drive your own car!!! that’s the plus
have a great weekend K *hugs*
K!
are they closing the one is TST? I used to take that ferry a lot! I will miss it
waaaahhhh
anything that reminds me of China reminds me why i’m all alone…hikbi.
ohh weird!!!! you know what i saw your url typed in this internet cafe i am at now. hmm… who could be the visitor who lives near me?? and my house is like 2 streets away from this cafe! ohhhhh…
btw nice to come across your blog again.. i havent posted much lately.. too much time spent at work.. i actually just got off.. and have to do OT later. anyway.. id be visiting more..
i havent been to HK but yeah my sis mentioned about those ferrys..

That is nice and the pictures you took are quite lovely. We also travel on some ferry services here since you can drive your car on the ferry
Hi C, maybe they think it’s dangerous. Well it seems to me that the easiet way to travel to and fro Hawaii is by air, don’t you think? In Philippines, there are a lot of sea disaster because we have too many “islets” and not everyone afford to buy airtickets, so the alternative is to ride on a big ferry. The ferry here is just less than 15min ride to the other side of the island, only for passengers. I use these ferry when the weather looks pretty laid back.
Duke, not closing, just relocating. I don’t know the one on the other side, I think they’re just having a complete re-do. HK has changed a lot since the handover really.
JC, hehehe, diba mas masarap ng walang kasama paminsan-minsan?
Velvet - hey how are you? Talaga? Baka si JC ang kasunod mo, look 15 mins difference lang agwat nyo eh baka nasa tabi tabi mo lang sya. Take your time, I, too am lack with the bloghopping. How bizarre.
Charles, I think we have those ferries here too but this one is only for passengers, no big luggages allowed as it travels less than 15mins to and from the Island. It’s very convenient, cosy & it’s one the colony’s icon.
Oic. We have those passenger ferries only on the city sentrum when one is lazy to walk all the way to the other side since it is not usually advisable to drive around Bergen especially if you are new since it easy to get lost.
Wow, your samsung does that good pictures K. Picture perfect.
Have a great week ahead K, and your blog still looks good as ever.
Unfortunately, I haven’t ridden a ferry or a ship yet. It gives me goosebumps, or maybe because I have a phobia for the big sea/ocean.
Nice images, K! It’s so clear!
Took the ferry from Vancouver to the Island in Canada. A great ride. BTW K, did you get my postcard from Canada? I mailed a few days before I left I think.
Hi K!
A gadget guy,new cool cell phone and next is a new camera,i noticed 2 of them are Japanese products. I’m using a cyber shot and my lappie is a SONY too.
Yeah, you don’t post as often as you do before.Means we seldom get depressed anymore? good, good!
I visited HK 10 years ago. Didn’t have the chance to ride your ferry boats. Wasn’t interested of it, actually. I was overwhelmed of the shopping galore.
Do you take the ferry everyday? Wow, amazing.
The HK pictures are nice, buildings, buildings, and buildings. And hey, that guy in sunglasses looked cute. I wonder who could he be?
Charles, I find peace walking around this city. It never would make someone feel tired because everybody else does, it’s like walking on a big Theme Park with lots of shopping malls around each block.
Asha - I’m happy. I don’t think I will hate this phone real soon although I’m “fondering” on buying a new digital, at the moment this little gadget is keeping me company.
JV - if you want to visit my province, you’re gonna love it. Well when I was still in College, the only means of transportation for me is the ferry, comes high and hell waters. Nowadays, whenever I visit home after living here in HK for quite a while now, I avoid the ferry - meron din kaming eroplano dun anoh? Hahaha. But yeah, once in a while it makes you think, “what if” may disaster? Hopefully, it will not happen. *sign of the cross*
Range - I forgot to tell you, yes I actually received the lovely postcard. Your handwriting is quite funny tho. I loved it. Thank you.
Sachiko - Sometimes the lack of update was due to time constraints. Minsan, I have a lot of things to write pero kapag andito naka harap na ako sa laptop, it vanished. May jinx ata sa writing table ko. Alam ko na, dahil sa Samsung phone. Cheers!
Joy, only when I feel like, yung kunyari tourist ako. Most of the time, I walk on the same routes. HK is not that big tho, although crowded di nakakapagod pero orderly dito anytime of the day it’s safe. And the one wearing sunglasses is obviously yours truly. Tanungin ba daw? Panis!
Hi i am mad that it moved and i am only a little kid but i loved it and always go on it with my mom. i would go over and see my dad and it had a car park right there so i don’t no why they moved it but that is ok.
