What’s the catch? Well, if you read the same sentence “Ah, Satan sees Natasha” backwards, it would exactly read the same way. We use a lot of words every day, but we never learn all there is to know about it, nor do we ever think that there’s something we can actually learn with it. I believe that English language is filled with fun. Today I learned some words that reads the same backward or forward, it’s called a Palindrome.

And I often think that life must go all forward. Can you think of the backward things and think about how much you hate it? Eat backwards? Start with desserts first? Walking backwards? Man, it would certainly make you feel uneasy. Read all words in backwards? Sure you can pay me a thousand dollars and I can easily read the words in backwards. But surprisingly, Chinese, Japanese or Arabics reads/write backwards, I mean literally, when they read a book, they start from the “back” cover to the “front”.

Once during my Elementary years in school, according to my elder brothers, the song Bohemian Rhapsody contains a backward satanic message from the other side of the reel casette tape which literally explained that it consist of two miniature reel ribbon inside, so each side of the tape produces different songs. I would not know if there’s truth in it. But on that very moment, I was rather skeptical whether it’s true so I started to believed that everything backwards is considered negative. So out of curiosity, they opened the casette tape and rolled the other side of the ribbon. Failed and the whole tape was ruined.

With all these in mind sometimes I think, it’s not always easy to live backwards. But we can always look back and learned from it. Although, at one point, there is something about the realizations bubbling inside my head. Specifically, our Religious class teacher has taught us about the saying, “You have to die to live”, “You have to give to get.” I can remember at one time thinking that I really didn’t need to read the bible anymore. Could we really just do exactly the opposite of what seemed natural to us? Then we would probably be perfect. As I progress through my mind, I can’t help contemplating what it would be like if we actually did live our lives backwards.

It’s like the old proverb “If you want to know how to live your life, think about what you would want people to say about you after you die, then live backwards.”

You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you’re too young, you get a gold watch, you got to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating…you finish off as a gleam.

Yes, sometimes we really do seem to live our lives backwards but I suppose it doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe that’s what He up there has been trying to tell us all along. I guess the direction in which we live our lives is totally up to us. It somehow shakes me to the core thinking about it. But I still rather like to walk both my feet moving forward and live life the way it should be.

Can you think of any word that spell and read the same backward and forward? Ok, I’ll start, EVIL = LIVE. That’s totally horrific.

Friday It’s God Thanks. Have a great weekend everyone.

very good reflection K :) looking back is one good thing, to help you move forward. but it’s always tempting to dwell. i guess that’s where we have trouble. moving on.

as Giles from BTVS would say “plunge and move on, plunge and move on”.

2006-09-22 10:30:15

BTVS? Buffy The Vampire Slayer?

Yup, the purpose of life is to live a life of purpose. We plan ahead in time, we write scripts, like a list of our next New Years Resolution. Have you already figured out what were you want to be in 10 years? I’ll be sooo old.

2006-09-23 03:11:32

I know a guy named Neil Lien.

2006-09-23 15:13:48

Hahaha Steve, I’ll let Anita Natina tell Li about this.

Thanks for sharing.

2006-09-24 15:43:49

Oh yes,i did quit for an entire month.June 13 to July 13.
But then i was very hungry and i didn’t want to give in so i started smoking again.
With all the honesty,to kick the smoking habit is not hard…quitting cigs wasn’t hard.
Was hard though,to accept all that eating.
Thank you for the bday wishes.

2006-09-25 05:45:48

Bad news was, I still couldn’t quit. Good news is, I smoke less. Does that counts?

2006-09-25 05:50:16

Check this one out, K:

http://www.palindromelist.com/longest.htm

Doesn’t make full sense but it appears pretty good!

2006-09-25 06:35:01

Hehe Jack, thanks for the link. Btw, is it still OK if you sign me up for a free vox account?

Thanks.

2006-09-25 06:37:21

C., a month is still pretty good and at least now, too, you know you can stop smoking any time. You’ve done it once, and you can do it again should you choose to. (Could chewing gum be an option? I chew Extra on dentist’s orders.)

2006-09-25 15:54:44

Ah,Jack! I missed you man!
I thought you forgot about me.
A month for a smoker can feel like a year but yes,i’ve done it and it wasn’t that hard.
I felt like i was in a black diet.
Gum can be an option but after a while your whole head hurts from chewing.
Not very pleasant.

2006-09-27 06:22:54

C., I chew gum a lot (dentist’s orders), which is why I suggested it. K, I will find your email and send you an invitation.

2006-09-27 13:23:34

Thanks Jack My email is “knoizki dot yahoo dot com”. I’d like to know, is it really FREE?

My husband read a science fiction book recently by a friend of C. S. Lewis, the main idea of which was that we do actually live through time backwards, so that travelling back in time is travelling into the future. Our sense of history is actually a prevision and we have no memory of what is past. Unfortunately this fascinatingly strange idea was the best part of the book: it was not well written enough to be worth reading: the most beautiful section was the preface, which was only two pages long (and I can’t for the life of me remember now, what the author’s name was….)

I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures on my blog- thanks for saying so.

2006-09-27 19:02:35

I chanced upon your site and saw the pictures. Incidentally, I was also watching the Documentary about Mexico City’s most disastruous 1985 Earthquake and that Volcano in your picture was featured there too. It’s such a nice sight to see.

Thanks Kamelda for visiting back.

2006-09-27 19:14:33

K, I sent it around 10 hours ago—has it not arrived? It really is free.

2006-09-28 08:05:00

I got it Jack, thanks so much. I have already signed-in and read your comments. I’m still thinking what to write, perhaps I’ll play along with it for a while. Neato.

2006-10-01 19:37:00

very interesting post yet again…

it reminds me of something.. i watched a play by Theatre O where they performed a piece that talks about the absurdities of life. it was a comedy. (and i forget the title! grrr!)

anyway, there was a line in the dialogue that went something like:
“wouldnt it be nice to be born as an adult and die as a baby so that we all die innocent, admired and cute.”

2006-10-15 18:18:42

Dog god.

Race car.

@ Kamelda: Really, what is time? Is time not but our perception of it? Is not really the equivalent of change? For to reverse time is to reverse change, but is that not even within itself a form of change? :P
