A rather short but nice conversation with Filipina actress Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas
It was late in the afternoon in Central while looking for some bread to eat when I saw a tall girl that looks like, wait - Ruffa Gutierrez? You gotta be kidding, what is she doing in Hong Kong?
This woman got a class even if she wears no make up, wearing a nice knee-lenght leather boots (in this kind of weather?) pulling a hand-carry Gucci bag, effortlessly standing with a poise and has a very straight and shiny dark brown hair. I tried convincing myself that it’s gotta be her but I’m still in a total shock. She looks simply gorgeous.
Then she suddenly approached me and asked:
Ruffa: “Excuse me, are you a Filipino?”
Me: “Yes, I am” (in disbelief, do I look like some Chinese?)
Ruffa: “I’m sorry but I was trying to call my Mom and my cellphone died on me, low-batt na sya (battery is dead)”.
Me: “Oh sure, pero diba ikaw si (but you are…) Ruffa Gutierrez?”
Ruffa: “Yes it’s me, I’m glad you did recognize because yung isang Mama’ dun hindi ako nakilala (the guy right across can’t remember me). So, is it okay if I use your phone? I promise, I’ll make it super short.”
Me: “Sure, but I have no IDD call service”.
Ruffa: “Oh don’t worry, I got this Pinoy phone card from Istanbul”
Me: In shocked. All BLANK.
She’s standing near the distance and I overheard, she was talking to her Mom.
Ruffa: “Hi Mom, it’s so nakakahiya (what a shame!), my phone died on me and there’s this Filipino guy who let me borrowed his cellphone, ang ‘baet-baet’ (very nice). So how’s the weather back there? It’s been raining here and I couldn’t get the chance to… *pause*… Oh Mom, hello, hello - - hello? Oh my God!”
I was eating my bread in the distance pretending I was looking for something in my bag. Then she went back to me and say;
Ruffa: “You know, when it’s raining, it certainly is pouring. Ang swerte ko naman (I’m so lucky), my cellphone died on me and this time my phone card is empty, can you believe that?”
Me: “Oo nga eh, ganyan lagi dito kapag weekend (I know, it always does rain during the weekends). Wala ka bang kasama (are you travelling alone?)”
Ruffa: “Let’s find some Starbucks, I feel like getting a hot cup of coffee”.
Me: “Sige, wag na lang nakakahiya (it’s ok, I think I’m shy), I’m going to work anyways”.
Ruffa: “Sure, salamat sa cellphone mo ha? (thank you for the cellphone)”
Me: “You’re welcome, pero pwede bang mag request? (wait, can I have a request?) Can we take a picture together, kasi pag sinabi ko na nakita ko si ‘Ruffa Gutierrez’ walang maniniwala sa akin (in case I’d tell someone that I saw you, no one would believe me)”.
Ruffa: “Wait lang ha (oh wait!), I gonna put some powder on”. Ayan, ok na (there, done!)
When I was about to click my cam-phone, it suddenly rang. I let it ring for several times but it was so damn loud so I had to answer it real quick. Fook! A few seconds later, it was when I finally woke up.
Sayang! (”SHIT” - now that translates).
You see, I would have been annoyed by the phone alarm but infact it was my life-saver, I realized that it was my Dad’s birthday (he passed away 7 years ago). So I had to call home to greet my family specially my mother, Kathleen. “You remembered“, uttering in a breathless manner. Of course I did - I got extra phonecards and my cellphone was recharged overnight.
Then of course as I write this, I’ve searched for her site and found a really beautiful Ruffa Gutierrez.

Fook! you really fooled me! Hahahahhahaha
I mean really, I’ve had dreams of people - most of them were headless. Isn’t that scary? And only this time that I really see a face, a beautiful face at that but I don’t really take these kind of dreams seriously. Oh well, this one was a happy dream.
a touch with fame! nice one…
i sat across from robert downey jr. at the toronto airport gates last month, but he didn’t need to use my cel
What did you say? If I were to meet him in any of my dreams, I’ll offer him a pack of cigarette. I bet he’ll refuse it. hehehe.
Damn, and I thought it was for real… i was thinking you might have that pic up there.. *smacks K* haha..
A good one. She looks amazing.
Pfftt* Haha.
If I can still remember, I think she was one of the runners up at the Ms World competition few long years ago.
sana you asked her pala about her reaction to dennis da silva’s recent wedding, hehehe. (tapos hinigi mo gucci bag niya for me, mwahaha!)
lokoh ka talaga, pati sa panaginip kakaiba ka pa rin *muah*.
Dennis Da Silva? Ahhh the “That’s Entertainment” days - di ko na ma-alala. She’s really beautiful back then till now. I saw her in person accidentally sa Cathay Lounge at the HK airport during her trips to Istanbul, on-going pa lang ata yung pakikipagkita nya nun kay Bektas. Invited ka ba nun sa kasal nila? Extravagant wedding sa cake pa lang may swarovski pa.
i will sing for you: “pangarap ka na lang ba … o magiging katotohan pa …”
sus! you got me there! so she is The Girl of your dreams
Jolina Magdangal yang kanta na yan ah? bwahha. I think nadala ko sa pagtulog yung recent post ni Duke about Shopping malls sa Istanbul & my complaints about rains, ewan ko kung bakit si Ruffa ang starring. Ibang klase, nyak! nyak! nyak! Pero in fairness, Ruffa is really beautiful.
bwahahahahahahahha!
naloko ako dun ah. I really thought you met up with Ruffa. I was about to complain why I never see her here and you just find her in HK!
kakatuwa naman yung dream mo— tama ka! Ibang kalse LMAO
Duke, tell you what, after reading your Rat Mall, nadala ko sya hanggang pagtulog. I was probably looking forward for another grand shopping but it will only happen in December. Besides, summer is soon be over, no more spending until I get my bonus.
Ruffa is a hell lot of a hot mommah. She got 2 kids, imagine that.
That is quite a nice dream indeed! I usually dream in technicolour but it always involves zombies and vampires. I am always the vampire and I fly around and being chased by zombies
I love blood sucking vampires, scary dreams. It’s as if you’re watching porno movies all sweating and doesn’t know what to do. GAG ME!
Yeah I thought it was real too!
And I didn’t mean to. Hahaha.
salbaheeeeeeeeeeee!! tsk tsk hehehe
Cheh, salamat. Na-entertained ka nga eh pinalo mo pa ako. *throws some conffetti’s*
i almost fell for it!!!! nice story-telling, though!
aaaaaand, i love al green’s let’s stay together.
Opppss. I thought you puked?
I like the version of Lemar’s also. You like the jazz and blues too? Now I’m gonna love you for that. :hugs:
peklat kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!!
peklat kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh K!!!!
Arayyyyyyyyyy, what did I do?
Sorry. I think this is the second time I did to you. Remember this? You almost want to kill me for that. But glad you reacted that way, which means talagang binabasa mo ang blog ko.
K! You’ve got me! I thought the story was true! Oh, pesky alarm! Now, that’s a proof that you are a great story teller and at the same time a great writer. You let your readers dive into your mind, and let them turn your imagination into reality! That’s great K!
I can imagine Ruffa’s accent and the way she talks. Haha!
I think sons are really close to mom rather than dad. And daughters are close to their own father. I think it’s also psychological. I was touched by your story regarding your mom. She has a great and warm heart! We love them just the way they are.
Thanks JV, pinalaki mo pa ulo ko. I have few odd, dirty-tongue-drooling dreams but I just want to keep it myself or it will gross you out even more.
I think I remember Ruffa’s old movies before and I had a few laughs at her classy antics.
I was also very close to my Pop, not that I really showed it, pero what matters most is how your heart says. Thanks JV, you see I put dramas in blogging.
lol. over-react ba? hehe.
of course binabasa ko blog mo! kainis nga kung may error ang wordpress. i couldn’t get a daily dose of knoizki.
sorry for posting twice. topakin ang server namin lately.
Hahaha Dez, you probably get too excited that I’d actually met Ruffa kaya nag double-posting ka.
yea Ruffa is still a hot momma.
Do you know she spearheads fashion tv here in istanbul? I never saw her though.
hehehe an influence ka pala ng mallrat blog ko! lol
And she’s more than beautiful after having 2 kids.
Yes, I easily get influenced from what I hear or read from people. Don’t be surprise if one day, you’ll be in my dreams. Now that’s more exciting, aint it?
ANG GANDA NG PAGKAGAWA NG STORY MO SANA GUMAWA KA PA NA INTERTAIN AKODOMO ARIGATO
Glad you enjoyed it Ruby. Arigato.
kala ko pa naman totoo na hehehehe
hehehe Mrloo naloko ka din. Thanks for the visit - but I’ve met Ruffa a few many times before (in person), simply beautiful.
