A Dialogue With K

it’s all about the taxis, billboards, sidewalks, cinemas, zebra lines, lights, sounds, people, skyscrapers and shopping malls.

The light shopping at the IFC mall in Central the other day didn’t help. Well walking from Pacific Place to the next couple of buildings until reaching the Jollibee fastfood restaurant is fine. But if you are like doing something routinely, things just drags me off to feeling like so completely bored after an orgasm.

Alternatively, one may have the feeling that having too much spare time causes boredom. That’s why I ended up myself watching the nine thirty show of Superman Returns at the IFC Cinema. I’ve checked-in earlier and the moment the door was opened, I let myself in running to the comfy chair and began snoring before the show started in ten minutes. The movie was great, it didn’t make me bored, at the very least not disappointed. I thought the wife of Lex Luthor was just dumb-funny.

It isn’t true though that having nothing to do causes boredom. I believe all the mom’s at home suffers with it but not because they didn’t have enough laundry to do or floors to mop but what exactly the reason why we easily get so bored?

Here’s my Top 10.

10. I’d spend around half an hour clicking on wordpress.com forum reading people’s complaints about the free service. I just don’t understand why most of these people doesn’t know what a “free” service literally means. That is, limited resources.

9. I just had to spend HK$1000.00 for some t-shirts & cargo pants. Now I got four (4) different shorts. My credit is crying in shame.

8. Last night I finally mastered all of the functions on my phone, and there’s no more playing to be done with it. I probably need another toy, a Nokia E61. Not bad even without a camera.

7. Downloading music to my multiply account and stare and click my FireFox browser on few consecutive hours.

6. I’ve been drinking coffee and mugs are now loaded on top of each other in my kitchen sink for several days which was left unwashed. Disgusting.

5. I don’t spread my friendliness to the people I see at work because I find them boring to talk to anyways.

4. It’s hell a lot hot outside and it’s gonna be still at least for two months until the autumn comes. I’m worrying again by bringing those jackets to the laundry shop for dry cleaning.

3. Loads of old paper work that I need to clean out.

2. There’s so little to do I can’t think of any more reasons why I’m bored.

1. Maybe I’m just a boring person.

Basically my mind is dull these days and I am lazy in all these probabilities. You see boredom can come from a lack of interest in a topic like this one.

Blogger is actually great when it comes to customising your blog but you have to deal with the PMS episodes from time to time. Wordpress on the other hand is quite stable but then has limitations unless you get the stand-alone version.

I am wondering why you are still bored when in fact you had done tons of stuff

Hi Charles, I know what you mean. Seriously, I used blogger many years ago, I enjoyed the benefits of customizing templates - it was fun, the same reason why I bought my domain using wordpress platform. You see, I have previously become a prisoner of changing templates. Apparently, I’ve exceeded my bandwidth usage (the site traffic was skyrocketting) for the reason that I was not certain. I had to pay the lumpsum fees just to recover the suspended account. Of course I didn’t want to pay for it since I was not sure if it was legit.

Now, I realized that a free service really works for me. I am now worry-free and wordpress.com is just right below my nose. It’s easy to use, friendly, no more fancy crowded templates and things just become so casual but not totally isolating it to the whole wide web. Infact, I got more blog roll because of wordpress.

I try to keep occupied, that way I’m not bored. I don’t have a TV anymore, because I didn’t use it. I read, write, blog, comment and naturally work.

The most interesting things come from reading blogs and interacting with different people. That gets ideas into my head and makes me think more about certain things.

I read Wikipedia on subjects that I want to learn more about, like Artificial Intelligence, Semantic Web, Transhumanism. I create blogs for other people, like my wife, just for fun.

When I’m responding to comments, it’s non-stop and I think, for me, is one of the signs of being bored. That’s right, I love reading comments as much as I love reading blogs (at least those whom I find worth reading).

Ever notice that when you watch a clock and see the hands move and await a certain hour to come and pass, it seems like everything has stopped. And the more you look, the more you shook, then it becomes very slow, it makes you bored, makes you sick, it’s like moving through your mind - it’s insane, I tell you.

I like to stare when I’m bored.

It helps pass the time.

Blank wall blank wall blank wall.

Eventually — I either forget that I was bored or I get so bored that anything seems better than staring at a wall.

2006-07-21 09:16:17

Hahaha Mick that’s very inventive of you. I think you’re right, it will pass the time. Well I can scratch myself, my back, even if nothing itches, I’ll try it. Doesn’t that makes me feel good afterwards?

Yay!! I’m not alone. :P
Oh blah K, I keep getting this “You’ve got three kids.. how do you manage your time?” Yeah right, I don’t mean to say that I don’t have nothing to do, it’s more like, I don’t feel like doing these things.. so I get bored and start whining. Haha. typical me.

I think it’s all in the mind. How we see it. ja?

2006-07-21 15:04:59

Oh poor you Asha, you’re not alone on this. I know there are times that we normal people feel this way. I can certainly imagine your house routines and scolding your children because you’re bored (and tired) hahaha. But hey, whining might be throwing out something with value that still works, like a nagging at your kids for messing the house. End of the day you found yourself cleaning the mess until the time passes by without even realizing you were suppose to be doing nothing.

I’ve read boredom can cause your brain to become more stupid. Don’t allow that to happen. *drama act*

I only get bored when there’s nothing to do at work and there’s no overdue paperwork to file. Strangely my consumption of M&M’s seems to increase during such times. Hmm….

2006-07-21 15:44:06

Like swallowing my tongue for five mins. It can be possible but really stupid.
Did you try throwing the M&M into the aerie as you catch them with your mouth? I’m sure you’ll be spinning around and dizzy but I think it makes boredom a lot better and fun, isn’t it?

2006-07-21 15:45:25

getting bored? why dont you do a collage of all your photos (those that cant be filed in an album anymore) and have it framed and hang it on the wall! that’s what i actually do if i find myself counting away the time … keeps my fingers busy :)
as for out off topic: kasi naman wala kang shout box dito kaya have to make singit for my latest chika! bwahahahahahah!

mwah!

2006-07-21 18:22:09

I did that done those stuff Madam Gracie. The picture frame is now sitting under my bed, I don’t want anymore to remember those stupid face in collage but maybe I’ll try breaking the frames, cut the photos to tiny pieces and make a mess. It’s gonna be entertaining by cleaning it all up myself. Silly! I am not cleaning up!

Wait, what do you mean “KEPPS MY FINGERS BUSY”? Kindly elaborate pls.

As for shoutbox: the wordpress.com doesn’t allow “javascripts, iframes, music codes so what can you say? OK I’m allowing you for the off topic comments, habaan mo ha?

for some weird reason, I think of mathematic equations when I’m bored. I like checking if I still remember how to solve those 5x-3y= z+y
(eeewwww… ang nerdy!)

I tinker with MSN messenger. I’m so inlove with it right now! I adore the interface and the fact that you can chat with yahoo peeps from MSN now :D yay!

try learning anew language. Download the French podcast.;)

First of, I got your beautiful Antalya postcard today, thank you for that - so nice of you really (kung hindi pa hiningi) hahaha.

Seriously, I can’t do math. I’m not smart at calculators, bankbooks, savings or even spending - everything with numbers I screw them all the time. I can yawn smart enough tho.

I’m like a small fish swimming in a big river. No matter I strive on flipping my fins to get near the shore, I feel I’d never get there. I once said to myself, “If only I were richer” then I would find life more meaningful. I feel like there’s something missing. I was plagued by boredom and anxiety once in a while.

I think that the choices we make every day are behind us whether we feel bored, or interested in our surroundings and things in a way that makes life truly thrilling and satisfying!

I’m glad you never really get bored reading my blog. I rarely see people doing that around here. I enjoy your consistency - that’s what I like for a friend.

what do I do when I’m bored?
I stay online, surfing the web aimlessly looking for nothing specific, take a nap, watch a movie on TV or DVD, tinker with Blogger, play games on the PS2, search for mp3 or movies to download…and just drive around, find a good spot and go crazy with my digi cam :)
those were the days before school started…now all I do is stare at my textbooks or notes *frustrating*

2006-07-21 22:22:10

I tried taking a nap, I easily distracted with the thoughts in my head, solutions are simply hard to find. But I think the problem is motivation. Even if I have something else to do at work, it makes my brain happy, but I feel isolated like I’m the only one who cares.

Boredom grows out of routine, so maybe any sizeable change would probably do me well. Mmm let’s see, how about lending me your brand new HP book?

2006-07-21 22:23:40

oh,mine is a different kind of boredom..im planning of living somewhere else in 5 years time, maybe in the states or spain.

Hey, that can kill my boredom, I will check on it and see what my mind has to say. Thanks Ate Sach.

2006-07-21 22:52:37

play online poker :)

2006-07-22 01:01:37

Hahaha Dez, no thank you. Bad influence ka. I don’t even know how to play poker, but yeah maybe if I’ll try and learn playing it, then I’ll be happier. But no, next time na lang.

That is quite true K. I am also now happy with wordpress since it’s ate beng who hosted my site. My Bend It Like Banana was on a blogger platform and I noticed that it really sucks the bandwidth. Almost every month my consumption is around 12 gb and I think it’s due to spam as well since Blogger is quite vulnerable to that. I felt a new life with Wordpress now and also more blogroll as well hehehehe

2006-07-22 04:33:27

I cannot afford it anymore, Charles. Although I still miss my old domain blog (to hell with my treasured posts I lost), I’ve somewhat picked up myself back to a new free blogging service. Ate Beng had asked me a couple of times to sign up on her but afterawhile of consideration, I settled on keeping it low-profile.

Have a great weekend.
