I ate at McDonalds about a week back. So I went out for a stroll a few hours ago and the only reason of going in there was because I had no food in the house and everything was closed except for the 24 Hours McDonalds near my place. I totally knew I would regret it because a burger is not my type of food but since I was already starving and doesn’t want to eat my instant noodles again, I ordered my McCrispy Chicken meal set with an ice lemon tea and a large french fries. I thought all the fat and sugar might give me energy, or something.
What I don’t understand with cravings of food is that whenever I start doing my errands, I’d start feeling like eating a burger just to fill my empty stomach. Call me a bever, I eat a light food between meals so I thought I’d go for it and order another hamburger. I never really like the double-cheese burger, there’s something in it that I don’t feel like eating, it tastes really sour with full of mayo, tomatoes and all with the beef. A beef? I wonder why do we call them a Hamburger which infact it isn’t even made of HAM? I couldn’t finish the burger after eating some of the chips. It was so damn horrible.
Having a lunch at one of the most popular filipino fast food called Jollibee, I would spend 30 minutes eating the greasy Chicken Joy fried chicken with a side rice on a very hectic crowded place. People would even wait infront of your table just to make sure they’d grab the seat when you’re done. It’s like as if someone is pushing you to gobble your food a mili-seconds times then escape right away without having the time to relax for a jiff. I was supposedly feverishly exploring a few streets nearby for something different for lunch but it seems like every now and then, fast food have become more like a cinema as you wait in line to get for your ticket. Waiting can be very disappointing - the more I search for the right fast food, the more I’d become hungry and the last thing in mind is to go to a nereast big M logo.
McDonalds is now very popular in Asia. It becomes a fast food for everyone. Everytime I think of McDonalds, I think of them as cheap, ketchup, fillings and free white napkins. You may regret it but you always come back to it. It’s for kids but then why adults and the like are obsessed with the food? What’s in it that we keep coming back, eat and sit all day we like even if we never order a big munchies of burger? It’s relatively cheap but there’s no variety, well of course nowadays, McDonalds creates other non-burger choices. Here we have the chicken wings which I think my first pick for a late lunch. Infact, I really can’t take their burgers - it suck but they have good fries and their pig-fat ice-cream is delicious.
Thinking all these food, I considered this an absolute junk. I wonder if all the McDonald’s stores over in your respective countries has introduced allegedly healthy options? In Hong Kong, chicken is the best food to order in any of the fast foods. Everything here is all about chicken. There are too much cholesterol and it’s killing everyone of us. But then again, we still eat not just the burgers but the McChickens, nuggets and the sundaes.
Usually, my conscious decision to indulge in McDonalds leaves me reminded as to why I’ve become addicted to it after I’ve indulged.
Happy 4th of July!

I havent been to Mcdonald’s nowadays. Since I usually eat on some restos with interesting food and also since I am on a diet.
But even if you don’t eat at McDonalds, buffet in some restaurant can make you BIG, Charles, well if you choose carelessly. Restaurants can be called a Casual Food, but do you know that a growing number of restaurants has now specialize in what they called “fast food for adults.”?
Here in HK, the past time of people is both shopping and restaurant but I don’t see BIG people around - both men and women still looks slim and healthy.
Aha. The gym.
Little known fact:
The additives added to every item on the menu are as addictive as heroin or crack cocaine. Forget cigarettes! Forget your drug of choice! We need to have 12-step programs for McD’s addicts world-wide!
That said, I personally hate most of McDonalds food options.
Yes, because of Michael Moore and a slew of other indie filmmakers, fast food in Amerika is trying to improve its image and is offering a great deal of supposedly healthy options. But — no one goes to a fast food restaurant to eat healthy! No one wants a low-fat soy-burger on a wheat bun! Yech! We torture ourselves at home, for christsake. When we pay to eat, we want it very unhealthy — otherwise it is a waste of cash.
Bring on the lard! Bring on the clogged arteries! Gimme a smoke and let me eat my fast food in peace. Hell — we forgot to give me a nice cold beer!
***
What I find amusing, K, is that McDonalds owns a fast-food Mexican restaurant chain called Chipotle. They promote themselves as a healthy fast-food alternative, a break from all of the greasy burgers.
Sorry for the shouting…
Bring on the lard! Bring on the clogged arteries! Gimme a smoke and let me eat my fast food in peace. Hell — we forgot to give me a nice cold beer!”
Hahaha way to go, Mick. It took my brain a moment to process this new information of yours. But you see, everybody eats, whether we want to avoid the fats and calories, “ninety percent of every kind of food is crap”.
I think Mexican food is great while it is true that healthier choices are more plentiful at some restaurants compared to traditional fast food establishments, I do think that calories, fat and sodium can still add up quickly, unless you’re savvy.
Perhaps it’s the way we eat. In general, people eat two meals a day (except I think in the Philippines where we eat 3meals a day). Dinner, at midday say 11:00 or 12:00, Supper, in the evening, about 6:00.
BTW, it’s true, food is worse than crack.
Eversince I watched the film Super Size Me, my trips to McDs became less frequent. Now I only go there when I really have no choice.
btw… did you even notice how the Mc chicken sandwich over there in HK tastes a little bit more “cantonese”?
“…the Mc chicken sandwich over there in HK tastes a little bit more “cantonese”?”
F’realz? I don’t know. It still crunchy and just right for my taste. But never ask me to eat the steam chicken in soy sauce, you can almost see a semi-blood as you bite the wings. That is so freakish. I find it rather odd that this is the best chicken served in our cafeteria.
Wag na, sundae na lang.
well not into burgers really that has almost all the fatty stuff also the fries, i love the chicken nuggets on sweet and sour sauce, and apple pie, that’s it
*K dcc some nuggets, sundae and apple pies to UAE for Mayang.*
Anything else, Mam? I repeat your order, nuggets, sundae and K.
I’m so diabetic really but I still eat and likes sweets - can’t leave McDo without one of these. I think the masses are listening to McDonalds commercial a lot so that’s why we keep on coming back.
good morning K! batang Mcdo ako eh. i love their burgers, mc flurry and twister fries. too bad they still don’t have healthy options. feeling bloated ako afterwards
“feeling bloated ako afterwards”
A friend who always say this to me after a big dinner cracks me up. She’s super tall and big, not a typical Pinay but everytime she bites part of her burger, she’d go - “tsk, this is so delicious and I’m feeling bloated na”.
I guess it pays to eat McDonalds, at least for her (and for you). Let’s have some tea.
Mcdonald’s is a life saver espcially during those layovers to which nothing i think can be eaten except ur trusty mcnuggets, bigmac, apple pie and a large coke. mcdonald’s.. story of my life.
Haha Yuri, Confession of a Foodie. I like food on flight. I would normally ask for a rice & fish whichever is available. I wonder if you’re flying economy, are you allowed to have another set of meal? I haven’t tried that yet since MNL-HKG is just super short trip. How about Business Class? Do you guys serve diet foods?
It’s going to be quite a journey if the ingredient of choice for a meal is something like my choice of fish and rice, then I, as one of the passengers must have another serving.
Yuri: Sir, red wine or juice?
K: Sorry, do you have a smoking area?
I try to avoid eating at McDs (KFC/Burger King/etc) where possible and have done ever since reading “Fast Food Nation”. Even their so-called healthy options - the menu for that in Australia is nearly longer than for their unhealthy options - don’t appeal.
However, there are times when eating there can’t (yep, can’t) be avoided - long trips down the highway between Sydney and Melbourne, for example, where a detour to find a real food outlet involves time and distance. On these occasions I feel a little guilty but also a little like going back for more ’cause depending on your choice, it does taste good. Esp. that pig-fat ice cream.

That’s exactly what general people do. Hahaha. It’s the scents of the french fries that makes us want to eat more. Remember, the vast majority of our “taste” is really in our sense of smell. Our tongue can only taste bitter, salty, sweet and sour. Everything else — the strawberry, the butter, etc — is coming from our nose.
No wonder, I love strawberry sundaes.
i think that’s why the phrase “fast food” was coined. it’s a place where you just eat and go, unlike restaurants where you are to sit down and savour both the food and the company you are with. i like the CARS movie promo combo though. 5-pcs chicken nuggets, your choice of sauce, twister fries, and a laaaaarge coke. 15 minutes, tank is full.
That’s correct, JC. Fast food meaning “EAT & GO then COME BACK for more”. Over here naman, for some selfish patrons, McDonalds is used for meeting business partner, they would order a cup of sundae or a large french fries for 3 hours sitting. To some, it’s a place to meet friends infront of big logo ad promoting a COMBO meal then you end up sitting inside ordering french fries until your friends finally shows up.
i became hungry. i suddenly wanted crispy fried chicken. mcdo nuggets or jollibee chicken strips. and loads and loads of gravy.
and i complain why i’m gaining weight. haha.
“…jollibee chicken strips.”
How come wala nyan dito? Panis. I thought standard ang menu choices ng Jollibee. But guess what, I stopped eating Jollibee Palabok even if they are palatable - nag tae ako diyan. I realized I was just very hungry.
Of course the Jollibee burgers ay SOBRANG SARAP!
Haha.. macdonalds are more for the kids. My kids love em. But here, compared to mac, bk and kfc.. mac offers fresh food plus first class service.
Sheesh, me hungry now for a mac chicken now! Your fault!!!
Asha, exactly for KIDS. And tell me, why the impact is yet so striking for adults? Because their french fries tastes so good, they are much more profitable than hamburgers. The flavors of childhood foods seem to leave a great deal of choice, and adults often return without always knowing why. These “comfort foods” become a source of pleasure because it comes with a free toys too.
I haven’t been to “the Scottish restaurant” since 2004, when Morgan Spurlock showed Supersize Me at Sundance. But I used to love the Garden McNuggets in Sweden and the McRib in Germany.
I really gotta see that movie on DVD, haven’t heard of this.
McDonalds now offers green salads but I don’t really like it. We don’t have a McRib yet. The one I really like to go now is the Pepperonis, known for great Pizza but everytime I’m there, I’d order my green salad with grilled chicken strips in sour sauce.
i now try not to eat too much of fast food…
the last time i ate a McDo meal was….sh*t, 3 days ago lang pala, when i had mcnuggets for dinner.
darn, and i just remembered i ate KFC for lunch just this sunday.
I like KFC but not my everyday food. The ads that says “finger licking good” is absolutely sex-related. hahaha, so yeah I know most of the time, if I want to eat rice, I’d chose the a la king - nothing special to it.
I just say no Pizza, definately not my choice.
hi K! love those sexy pics of yours!
speaking of Mc (that’s how we call it here) i sometimes have the cravings but i go there maybe once or twice a month, more than that and i’ll feel guilty, the same feeling when i drink coke!
we have Japanese type of burgers here like the teriyaki burger,my kids’ favorite. we got different kind of salads too, depending on the season.
Mc,Japanese style for you!

I recalled, McDo introduced these Japanese burger, you know how much Chinese loves anything Japanese, but it didn’t went well. They thought, having a Teriyaki sauce on top of the burger would make a difference, infact I still prefer the plain burger, no tomatoes.
I’ve checked your site, brand NEW host. I will update your links, Ms Sachi.
McD…
The year that I was on the road all the time, I hate in a lot of restaurants. Not fast food joints, but resto’s. Cost me a bunch of money and I did gain 20 pounds that year, still working on shedding that weight at the gym.
From time to time, I do go to fast food joints, maybe once every few months, most of the time it’s once every six months. I enjoy cooking, so I like making my own home burgers. I find the burgers in fast food joints suck, except Harvey’s.
I used to eat a lot more in fast food places, I stopped. Not because I was getting fat, but because I realized that it was unhealthy. Since January, I have been going a lot to the gym, my max was 5 times a week for about 16km per week of running. I have cut out most carbs since last year, I don’t eat any bread, I try to avoid pasta, but I still do indulge. I eat lots of fruits. I find that with the 10-15$ you spend in a fast food joint, you could eat a great home cooked meal, like a nice rare steak with some steamed veggies or something like that.
I guess its harder for people who do not enjoy cooking. I am the cook in my relationship, because my wife can’t cook. She started making salmon and has always made salads and sandwiches, but its a process.
To answer the question, I take 10 mcnuggets and a salad, without soft drinks or fries when I go to McD.
PS, I have lost at least 15 pounds this year by going to the gym this year.
I am the cook in my relationship, because my wife can’t cook.
How lucky your wife to have a husband (and to the rest of those whose husbands are Chefs) that cooks. I can imagine the pressure if I’m in the kitchen. I hate cooking as much as I love eating but really, a husband who can actually cook can build up lots of ‘brownie’ points that a wife will never be able to repay you for.
Salads makes the best for a healthy lifestyle.
green tea with a chocolate cake will do K
A green tea with a chocolate cake?
Ok, I will pick chocolate cake minus the green tea. I haven’t tried both yet. Although I’m a fan of both, I’l go in waves of having a green tea chocolate flavours like muffin maybe?
Same here. Most of the Norwegians are slim and fit since they love nature hikes and are very active when it comes to sports and stuff. It’s more like a national hobby. Football on summer or spring but it’s usually whole year round anyway and then skiing and other winter stuff on winter time.
And buffets are not really a trend here. I havent encountered one yet. I usually eat like starters, then comes the main course and then dessert if I feel like eating one. Almost all the restaurants here serves like that.
“And buffets are not really a trend here. I havent encountered one yet.”
Unlike HK, buffet’s are the best buy in town. I don’t know why it’s very popular here. For such a minute island-country, Hong Kong is best for any restaurant and it’s unimaginable. In every place around here, there are accessible restaurants serving varied selections of deliciously appetizing cuisine, it’s very multicultural.
I hated running because I had asthma. But in recent years, as I got older, I didn’t have asthma anymore.
Buffets are bad in North America, because they tend to add MSG on the food so that you don’t eat too much.
I love sushi. There is this great place here in Montreal called Sho-Dan, it has the best special rolls. To all connaisseurs, special rolls from sushi chefs are the best. Sometimes they aren’t even on the menu, you have to ask for them, because they change frequently as the chefs experiment.
I love sushi. There is this great place here in Montreal called Sho-Dan, it has the best special rolls.
Oh you do? The most (’squeeshey’) enjoyable food - healthy food as Japanese would say. Not only good but it’s a bit expensive too.
Range, it seems like you have the Asian culture in your blood - you love Asia, the food and I’m sure if you ever get to see the rest of the country, you’ll enjoy it here. Go Range!
first of all K dearie. I wont address you as Sir.. K lang period. 2ndly, U Donbt have to ask, everything’s on a bag already ready for take home bwahahahahahahahahaa
Bwahaha, I don’t know, everytime I think of a FA, there’s a cute little ‘quotations’ about “Coffe or Tea, Orange or Water” - sometimes I suspect, don’t you ever get tired asking the same question? I wonder if I were the FA I would ask, “Excuse me Sir, what’s your order”? Ginawang resto. NATAWA AKO BIGLA.
McDo in India … they are up to standards when it comes to the fries … but for all others you might just forget about going to McDo … it sucks big time! guess coz they have problems here with hygiene … for the locals they have vegetarian options that they can enjoy … they even call one of their burgers Maharaja which is super spicy!
“it sucks big time! “
Oist, parang galit ka!
Well you should not worry, your husband knows how to make you smile. Do you ever ask him to cook a Pinoy food for you? What do you think his reactions? Dibale pang hotel naman ang pagkain mo, Thomas would never allow you to eat in fast food chains.
Gracie, I’m cheap, you can bring to any fast food, I’m not a complainer (cuz it’s a free treat) but fast food in Pinas is more enjoyable I think. But I won’t compare restaurants here, they are more relatively palatable.
and one more thing … the BEST McDo meal i’ve ever had is in Vienna … you can really taste how fresh the meat is … i actually didnt want to believe my husband about how good it was until i for myself had a taste!
damn! now i’m craving for it!!! huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu!
So McDo in Vienna has lots of Sausages & HAM?
I don’t get, it says HAMburger, tapos di naman HAM.
Kelan ko kaya matitikman yan?
hmmmm…chocolate muffins please
everytime i go see this post i start to crave for chicken and gravy. baaaaaaad!
mcdonaaallllllldddsss is beautiful ….. gimmie a life supply ha ha ha ha ill c u soon mcdonalds
ha ha ha ha aha ha ha
K, if you see that movie, it will put you off the McDos. Even Beckie, with her very optimistic comment about the “Scottish restaurant”.
The best pick in Macca’s (what McD is called in the Land of Oz) was those spicy cajun chicken burgers and the McRoast thingy they had a few years back
How did you know that the ice-creams are made partly with pig fat, K? I’m curious
I think most ice creams are made of animal fat.
I’m just wondering because I remembered being in a debate about the ice-creams being made out of lard (which is a big tub of cow fat) or pig fat (to our disbelief back then) I now steer clear of Maccas ice-creams because I find the traditional type of ice cream a lot better in taste and texture, and plus there’s a lot more variety as well
Guess this could apply to Wendy’s and Mr. Whippy too
