A Dialogue With K

it’s all about the taxis, billboards, sidewalks, cinemas, zebra lines, lights, sounds, people, skyscrapers and shopping malls.

What summer style are you?

Obviously the temperature’s rising and there are so many reasons to love the transition from fall and winter to spring and summer. One of the things I usually look forward to the most about summer is to be able to get rid of those long shirts & jackets.

When it’s summer, the weather around here gets very hot and the humidity is just super bulimic (because it sucks), this can only mean a few things: the use of shower gel have skyrocketed at some grocery store, the ice cream man has become the most popular dude on the block and many have recently been in & out the mall searching for a whole new set of speedos. So, what’s with your get-up?

The light window shopping I did yesterday has lead me into thinking whether I should or should not buy these lifestyle rather than trade-in my N70 phone. I ain’t broke yet, but I was just thinking - - maybe about time that I should look like an Abercrombie & Fitch person.

Rubber Logo Flaps - Blue HK$150.00
Ridge Trail Muscle Fit Shirt - White HK$370.00
Corps Belted Cargo - Khaki HK$450.00
Vintage Wash Caps - Navy HK$200.00

Expensive!

The real Abercrombie & Fitch shop must be somewhere in Causeway Bay, or maybe the Lane Crawford and Seibu, both designer shops, have these brands. So don’t expect me to spend about 3-4 hours wandering in pavements of Fa Yuen Street in Mong Kok - one of those export shops even if they are affordable (which undoubtedly very popular with HK expats) such as stocks like A&F, Hollister, Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Jeans t-shirts which generally sells around HK$40-$80 a piece.

i’m into any style as long as i get to have a good bargain in the end. i’m not into branded or labelled apparel and stuff, i’m more of the practical shopper. take me to a tiangge and i’ll be all smiles. the more i buy with a specific sum of money the happier i am at the end of the day.

my typical outfit out of the office: shorts, maong skirts(not the flowy, icky ones), capris, jeans, flip flops, flats, slip ons, slinky sandals and sneakers. i love baby shirts than blouses! i love wearing black, white and red though my fave color’s purple! :D

“i love baby shirts than blouses!”

The betty booper tee? And you’re safe to wear shorts in that country? I’m sorry but I have this impression that women are not suppose to show some skin? I mean, it must be very unusual.

Manila should be the best place for tiangge but if you ever been to HK, summer sales here, people go “crazy”.

since i’m here working i usually wear office clothes. LoL betty booper?! puhlease! those are just like skimpy icky blouses you know! i like baby tees as in t-shirts only smaller in size. plain tees are what i usually have on and besides i’m in Dubai, it’s more open compared to the other cities here in UAE that’s why i can wear skirts and shorts as long as i still look decent enough. yeah i heard sales in HKG are crazy, but have you heard of the Dubai Shopping Festival here?! you’ll see traffic in whole of Dubai stop just bec. of it! hehe :D

“….i like baby tees as in t-shirts only smaller in size”

Hahaha and that’s why I called it the BETTY BOOPER maybe minus the ‘twirlling-hair’. Hong Kong girls tend to show more skins during the summer, Causeway Bay is the busiest - it’s very local.

Never been to Dubai so I have no idea with the malls there. If I’m in Manila, just expect me in the BENCH shop - for underwears.

You see, I’ve never heard anyone saying that it’s summer in singapore. Either sunny or rain.. that’s it! So what’s with the clothes… we don’t need them on a sunny day, all we need is a blanket on a rainy day.

But it’s mostly casual… not much formal.

“I’ve never heard anyone saying that it’s summer in singapore.”

So it’s like raining all the time and people just stay indoors? Then I’m not going in there - hahahaha.

For work, it’s suits and ties for me. I like Hugo Boss a lot, but I haven’t bought myself any clothes in a while. I learned a while ago that an expensive tie makes the outfit, even if your suit is a bit worn, so I have at least 15 good ties.

When I’m off work, I go for Diesel jeans and cheap T-shirts. I got most of my Diesel jeans from a friend in Morocco, they were dirt cheap. Not C300$ a pair, more like C60$ a pair. When it’s smoking hot, I go for bermudas. I bought some last year for my honeymoon and I still wear them. They double as trunks and exercise shorts as well. I was surprised how expensive they were, about C40-C60$ each.

When I was a DJ and a clubber, I got a lot of club clothes. I still have most of them and I don’t really wear them that much. I’ve thought about selling them, but I am not sure; they are linked to parts of my memories that I’m not sure I want to give up.

Wazzup range, so true about things you can’t just throw or give away - that’s the problem having nice things, everything has a sentiments attached to it.

Diesel’s not cheap at all. A pair of washed-style jeans would cost like US$270, even the G-Star has similar tags but I do buy only when it’s on sale.

oooooh, shopping, shopping, shopping….(tongue out, wagging tail, drooling all over)

winter, spring, summer OR fall…

happy weekend K!

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

Hehehe Vina, I’m normal so stop that ‘face’. I think I would love the Spring and summer although Winter months are the trendiest month around here it makes me sick to the bones. I normally shop alone and I don’t shop that much naman pag may sale lang. If you invite me to a restaurant then that’s what I love the most. I’m just a very laid-back person now that I’m older.

Wavatar duke» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

My summer style is very eclectic.

I find myself wearings lots of whites. I have a thing for anything white at the moment- white shirts, skirts, slippers…

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

“I find myself wearings lots of whites.”

That’s for my underwears - white makes us feel and look fresh! I love polo-shirt muscle fit with collar, anything RL or Burberry is Hong Kong’s brand. I don’t know why everyone needs to look all the same here. I don’t mind the cheap t-shirts (wag lang GIO, sorry but I’m a Bossini or U2 fan minsan) wag lang yung the new RL gigantic logo.

Sa manila wag kang mag ‘white’, iitim ang collar ko nyan because of pollution, sorry to say but it’s true. Buhusan mo ako ng Baby Cologne.

I am into style but it doesnt necessarily mean that you have to shell out lots of moolah in order to be chic. Remember style for less! At least we have H and M here to give us good style but in low prices!

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

I’m a very casual person Charles and if you want to invite me in your party, most likely, I will not attend because I hate wearing formal clothes, the suits or the ties (but I’m jealous with people who wears one) because it’s made exclusively for tall people hahaha.

And I don’t have a lot of moolah. I’m cheap so you can always expect me just doing the window-shopping.

Wavatar Yuri» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

K, i need to shop too BIG TIME! i’m so depress thanks to you that the only cure I know is for me to go SHOPPING! i wanna go to hong kong K!

re: duke i love white during summer. look very immaculate with all the reflective rays. ;)

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

Still crying over those music (for life?) You poor chihuahua, get over it. And no, I am not going to join you in shopping mall - - teka lang ha, CR muna ako.

There’s another reason to enjoy shopping, include the whole family in your shopping list para may reason ka kung bakit matagal kang lumabas ng perfume shop (bakit ang pinoy ang tagal pumili ng pabango?)

Yuri I normally shop for myself and 2 or 3 bags, enough for me tapos susundan lang yan after 6 months since some of it pinapadala ko sa amin eh kapag inubos ko sa pambili ng lintek na A&F na yan ma guilty pa ako.

Hey, K! I do like your style. Some sort of high-end, summerl, casual style. The seersucker shirt is missing though :D.

Bubai,
Dicey

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

Hi Dicey! Good to hear from you.

Hong Kong is very influential place to shop - Gucci makes the brand in me but I can’t afford that (who wants a big LOGO bag? but women and men gets crazy with it). For as long as I can wear a leather chinelas I’m ok with it. The other day, I tried few pairs of LV leather’s and man, HK$5000.00? Shit, it makes me want to suck my thumb until it bleeds.

Wavatar grace» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

tito k … since we’re here in india i dont really wear anything short (skirt, shorts) coz they STARE at you until you really feel naked! so i have to pacify myself in wearing jeans and knee length skirt with shirts! :(

Wavatar K» added these pithy words on: Jun 30, 2006

Really? I love women wearing vintage-jeans in minis match with summer heels (I don’t know what you call them), and a white linen blouse and leave 3 unbuttoned on - GANDA mo na!

Here, people always think every girls walking on a mall are NAKED - summer is suppose to be like that, ang PUPUTI nila wag lang itaas ang kili kili kasi maraming hindi nag aahit, FUSCHA sagwa tingan.
