a walk
Originally uploaded by: idogu

The other day, singing seems to make a perfect sense to me. I find it crazy sometimes that whenever I reached the button of the elevator of my building, I started to sing my favourite lyrics — “You’re here, I’m pleased. I really dig your company. Your style, your smile, your peace mentality”. I feel there’s something that strikes me in that song.

My usual day often doesn’t go by that I don’t imagine myself walking down a busy Central with the entire black R&B singing behind me. Sometimes it’s James Blunt singing “Your’re Beautiful” and other times Edwin McCain is playing acoustic with the song “Love Suicide” and for people to know that it’s not “A Long Walk” from my flat to Pacific Place.

But often, when I’m not imagining my favourite song playing for all to hear, I’m drawing up how I’m gonna start writing on my next post where I apply few lyrics of the songs I’d like for my day in order to feel that I’m living a life full of beautiful things.

And then I’d sing — “A Long Walk” by Jill Scott.

Your background it ain’t squeaky clean shit
Sometimes we all got to swim upstream
You ain’t no saint, we all are sinners
But you put your good foot down and make your soul a winner
I respect that, man you’re so phat
And you’re all that, plus supreme
Then you’re humble man I’m numb
Yo with feeling, I can feel everything that you bring..

That song has an infectious rhythm and a happy attitude just like me. The lyrics of the song makes you really think about life in general. It really shows how emotional I really am. It communicates my life of living large, about expressing the joy and love of life. It’s about taking chances, and going for it.

“I can feel everything that you bring”, shows that I’ve got a lot of people who feed me important gossip and information and that I’m a really good listener — friends, work and this thing called the Internet, along with our own wish lists by trying to keep life simple!

I could go on and on with more of the lyrics which would further show how each and every line pertains to me. But if you just listen to the song and you really really know me you’ll see that this song is indeed my perfect song for life. You may be poor, you may have only a house that’s falling apart, you may have lost your job, but that song gives you hope.

What’s going to be yours?

Some of us pick about life songs because we think it’s what we should see them as. I know a guy whose song is anything by Eminem moving his head like he hadn’t eaten meals the entire day. I know a young lady whose song happens to be “Pon de Replay” by Rihanna and she even dance in the street like she’s on some MTV. Maybe these are the songs to be the one that defines their life.

But really people, before we can know the world around us, and make wise choices, we must first come to grips with who we are and what we value. Why not try picking something a little more YOU?

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

My theme song are some songs from Tamia like Into You and Officially Missing You. But it really depends upon my mood.

  2. Wavatar K on 11.06.2006 at 02:24 Post reply

That’s a good song Charles. Tamia has a sexy tunes that usually prick up ones ears the minute you hear her voice. It’s about “you” missing the person you already have when your day is done, you lie in your bed with the next “hundred chores” running through your head.

    What’s in your head?

Arggh, naging MUSIC meme. You have a multiple personality in there. From being a classy ho to drinking ho to dramatic ho, you name it. But I’m terribly laughing with your ‘la vie da rose’, singer unknown? Hahaha.

Ok, so what really is your life theme song? Pick ONE.

I believe that the songs that pop into our heads are actually reminders of where we are, or where we are about to be, in life. So our theme song will always change.

That’s true Jack. My kind of music taste is not actually driven by the popularity of the artist, what a band looks like, what certain people say about them, who they are seen with, and that sort of public image. In my generation, I thought having Barry Manillow in my ipod is such a cliche but when you really really listen to these kind of music it challenge yourself to think a little bit and say, perhaps, I’m gonna stick to listening to old songs because I’m feeling blue and all that. And it makes sense to me anymore that I’m not really a fan of Country music.

I have a couple picks…but my top two for now is “I Bruise Easily” by Natasha Bedingfield and “Everytime I Close My Eyes” by Babyface and Mariah Carey.

My other favorites are “Always” by Atlantic Starr, “Love & Honesty” by Hawaiian Style Band, “Spend My Life With You” by Eric Benet and Tamia, “Completely” by Jennifer Day, “Can You Stand The Rain” by New Edition, “This Very Moment” by KC & Jojo, “One More Time” by Laura Pausini, “Crazy for You” by Madonna and “Dreamin of You” by Selena :)
hope you’re having a fantastic weekend C! Did you bathe Ginger yet?

  10. Wavatar K on 11.06.2006 at 14:25 Post reply

Nice list Consuela. Since there are 2 of you who mentioned Laura Pausini, I’m gonna try that too. But have you heard of Chantal Krevaziuk? She has a very soothing voice. As for Babyface, he writes good music, he’s ok but IMO, I don’t see him as ‘The Singer’. I had one of his album and I got tired listening to it for days. Thanks heaven for iPod and “free downloads”, we can now choose what we like and delete them anytime we want.

Have a great Sunday — you called me a C.

The moment i saw the pic, I was humming the tune to this…

    I walk a lonely road
The only one I that have ever known
    Don’t know were it goes
But its home and I walk alone

    I walk this empty street
On the Blvd. of broken dreams
    Were the city sleeps
And I’m the only one and I walk alone

only then I read the entry… haha, my theme song kinda varies I guess.

    Nice post K.

I have to discover the title of that song, Asha.

But yeah, I admit most of the time, I put meaning to each lyrics and memorize them by heart. I do think that when you listen to a certain song, you will discover the real music on the lyrics itself and transform into a relationship with the song.

There was this hunky guy at the bar, where my little family hang out late for some pizza and he would choose a Britney Spear’s song at the Jukebox machine and scream the song “I want ROCK & ROLL”. The kids would then look at him as if thinking “Britney?” over their choice for Black Eyed Peas.

I usually sing a selection of numbers to myself (e.g. in the shower): ‘Gröna små applen’ and ‘Little Green Apples’, and ‘La belle vie’ and ‘The Good Life’, but lately I have been singing some Sinatra: ‘Come Fly with Me’ and ‘I’ve Got You under My Skin’. They seem to come to mind most often.

  14. Wavatar K on 11.06.2006 at 21:20 Post reply

Heard of Michael Buble? He’s the younger-sounding version of Sinatra, while I pick Jamie Cullum for these genre, I truly enjoy these kind of music — it’s pretty laid back and just about something to hold on to.

This is pretty much YOU. I kinda like Aiza Seguerra’s version on this, the lyrics are words to live by. I’ve learned that I feel better about myself when I make others feel better about themselves.

I have heard of Michael Buble, but don’t recall his voice immediately. I might go in to Pandora and see if he comes up. Thanks, K!

I love Pandora, well I’m using it for free. I’m a music fan and I can really dig the service very much. It lets you search on the music universe and creates a radio station based on your choice. How cool is that?

Only if wp.com allows javascript, I can add it on my widget sidebar.

Isn’t music really does have an influence on us? It makes us think in different ways and it completly changes us. So I believe that music has everything to do with who you are. I mean that is why we pick the kind of music we listen to because it explaines who we really are.

You know what C, we do have the same thing in common in regards to picking on R&B music - please play Corrine Bailey Rae for me please?

  23. Wavatar Jack Yan on 13.06.2006 at 20:44 Post reply

I can’t believe something as cool as Pandora, which uses so much copyright information, is free. Amazing. But I now have my eyes on potential albums, so I guess that ultimately helps the artists.
Can Pandora be added as a widget? I didn’t know that. When I get back to Wellington, I’ll give it a shot (in Auckland, and the internet is slow where I am).

  24. Wavatar K on 14.06.2006 at 02:20 Post reply

I think there’s HTML codes or javascript for your Pandora player. I’ve heard many people from the wp.com forum were requesting on the script to be usable in all the sidebars. However it sounded as if that they may not be available to add the player due to the fact that it javascripts will keep your blog to work very slowly, so I think it’s ok if I can’t have it.

I love soundtracks. And so far nothing gets me back into good mood as quickly as the songs in Stuart Little 2. The one song I play to death? Another Small Adventure Life’s like an adventure isn’t it? Comedy, drama, suspense, tragedy, hope etc… and it’s a matter of whether you choose to embrace that. Oh and what do you know? Chantal Kreviazuk sang that song. =p

  26. Wavatar K on 14.06.2006 at 03:28 Post reply

You’re a DVD addict Pari. hahaha but yes its true, life’s like an adventure. And music affects our life very much. Its funny how many people think it doesn’t. Say why do you think so many people dress the way singers or bands do? I think music has an ablility to enhance your moods, a song can get you motivated to do something.

One time I also copy how James Blunt really sing in the middle of a cold rain as he tries to jump on the ocean on his You’re Beautiful video - I tried that myself, singing in the bathroom with the shower on. It’s funny tho that I didn’t want to jump in the loo.

  27. Wavatar pari on 14.06.2006 at 13:45 Post reply

Hmmm, can imagine if that James Blunt song comes up while you’re on a boat in the middle of no where. Jump away!! Muahaha!

Ooooh… addiction is such a strong word. How about enthusiast? ;)
When you’re down and you listen to sad songs it’s a downward spiral. Well, at least that’s for me. It’s so true what you say about how music can really affect our lives and even our thoughts!

I hope that it’ll be one of your sources of strength during this tough period. Letting go something is no walk in the park, but I’m very confident that you can do it.

“When you’re down and you listen to sad songs it’s a downward spiral.”

I’ve been listening to my usual ‘Jazz moods’ all the time now. I think “I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the woods wanting to find someone to watch over me”. On the other hand, I follow what’s in my heart really - I know somewhere up there is looking after me.

I love that song, K! I am jazzy as well—my gf just got me a cool CD with some funk and electronica. Pari, most of my music CDs are soundtracks. I really love the John Barry stuff, and Joel McNeely is another film composer whom I admire.
