And the American Idol Winner is…
Taylor Hicks, the gray-haired Idol contestant, is the 2nd guy winner of the most watched reality TV show American Idol with a recording contract and the fifth “Idol” who took this year’s crown. He is perhaps the most predictable yet somehow unexpected “American Idol” during the finale.
He closed the show by singing “Do I Make You Proud“. Hicks sound is more on the classic soul and R&B ans since I’m a fan of Michael McDonalds’ music, in my own opinion, as Randy Jackson normally say, is “just an OK” voice but a good entertainer.
He’s 29 years old and looks like he’s Ryan Seacrest’s father. He throws himself around onstage like a marionette being manipulated by drunk puppeteers. The closest comparison to his vocal range are guys like Michael McDonald and Joe Cocker, neither of whom have been on the pop charts in at least two decades. - Craig Berman, MSNBC
I mean, call me a sucker but I love this show. I would sometimes sneak into the AI site at work just to get an update of the Wednesday’s elimination night. Since I can’t watch the re-run on the local TV, corrections they don’t show this on the local channel, I would then spend my time watching the recorded perfomances from the too small media player screen. How pathetic is that, right? It was simply addicting.
Let’s face it, why does this reality show consistently attract the weekly attention of close to 35 million viewers? We devote to the anonymous people and become a fan? I don’t care if they sing pop, I don’t care if other’s can’t sing either. We often say it’s a show for kids who wants to become a real star. Our tastes in pop music go right to the core of who we are. There is nothing like a song for expressing who we are, right? And don’t forget, it’s the power of music. Only if I can vote, I would give my girl Katharine the multiple dial since she just got me hooked listening to her Oh la la voice. American Idol just gives us so many ways to feel good about ourselves. No wonder it’s a hit.
However, my girl, the 22 years old Katharine McPhee, just placed 2nd. Hicks just plain outsang Kat on the final performance night. This adorable girl from Los Angeles has impressed many viewers because of her sultry voice & just simply gorgeous and charming, she had all the exterior qualities of an Idol. Throughout the competition, I’ve been rooting on her performance eversince she got into the Top 12. I enjoyed her finale when she nailed the KT Tunstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree“, one of her best effort of the year. And of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which the judges (I certainly hope they should really get rid of Paula Abdul) loved for the second week in a row during the competition.
Out of the Five Seasons, 3 and 5 were my two watched (and probably the most successful season in the hit talent show), American Idol . Meat Loaf, Prince, Mary J. Blige, and David Hasselhoff show up to pay tribute to the new Idol. It was by far the best finale show in the AI history.

Yeah Charles, it’s just one of those reality TV shows to entertain ourselves. If I were to choose, I’d prefer the “Little Big Star” on ABS-CBN, a Pinoy POP singing contest for kids - the show has ended its season few months ago. But if you’d actually seen this show, it will leave you gasping for breath because they sing better than the contestants from the American Idol.
I havent been following American Idol since I dunno I just dont like it. I like Eurovision better!
I only watch the highlights over the internet really, but tell you what, during the past seasons, I would run home and sit infront of the TV then later join the Idol forums and bash at each other - it was funny because these youngsters were into text-fighting, one would actually send messages such as, “I AM NOT WATCHING AI BECAUSE JPL IS GONE, I STARTED CRYING LAST NIGHT BECAUSE OF THAT I AM REALLLLLLYY MADDDD”, you know what I’m saying? A few years later, they complaint the same thing about Chris. They can’t get over it because the truth of the matter is that we just love watching “The Idols”.
Fook what am I talking about? I’m glad, there’s no HK Idol version or I will have to ask William Hung to sing again.

From what I’ve heard, the “fans” of Chris were too lazy to vote that time so he got the less votes and booted off, crazy things can happen you know or maybe he wasn’t really that popular. He always “look too serious” for a rocker. Haha I’m not bashing or anything but ok, he’s a great performer but everytime he sings, the voice is just above his throat. I’d prefer Elliott for him.
actually i love chris … and since he wasnt in the final two i chose taylor to win … katherine is fine but let’s face it, she should have been ousted rather than chris … still fate was in her side, guess it’s true that it was her destiny
Well my first prediction was she’d place 4 then Chris and Yamin would be the Final 2. I think it was the yellow gown she was wearing on I Have Nothing perfomance that made her that far in the competition. There’s something in that look really.

Hahaha.. yeah, McPhee lovesss the camera man. I don’t know.. I predicted taylor and he got it. Some instincts there.
But am happy when the guy takes the name… men are more humble than the ladies.
Oh, and do you know singapore idol 2 is in the making? I watch it for pure fun and laughter.. like a comedy show. Bad me I know. But surely, you’d agree with me if you get to watch it.
I thought so too - I’m a McPheever! The only thing I didn’t like about her is that she likes “hogging” in the camera with those silly “smile”. But overall, voila, she’s gorgeous! Imagine her singing a Whitney song? I thought it was only meant for “Divas” but she was terrific!
