One that I really really love doing in Hong Kong is when I walk at the park taking pictures of the skyscrapers, eat dimsum in a typical chinese restaurant in town, dai pai dong or street-side food stalls - in one day, you can finish your itinerary around the beautiful Hong Kong. And the best way to get to know a city is by walking around its streets. In fact, one of the most striking characteristics of Hong Kong is that, it has everything all in your hands. Sounds like Master card, right? Yep bring no empty wallets.
There are as many skyscrapers here as you’re likely to see anywhere, but they’re built with bamboo scaffolding. I think that Hong Kong is a home to one of the world’s largest shopping malls, but there are also lively street markets virtually everywhere that you can buy simply cheap.
Few of my favourites around here starts with:
Dining on Dim Sum: A great way to start your day, lively Cantonese restaurant for breakfast or lunch, where trolleys of dim sum in bamboo steamers are wheeled from customer to customer. Simply peer into the passing bamboo baskets and choose what appears the most tempting.
Hong Kong from Victoria Peak: You don’t know Hong Kong until you’ve seen it from here. Take the tram to Victoria Peak, famous for its views of Central, the harbor, Kowloon, and hills beyond, followed by a 1-hour circular hike and a meal with a view. Don’t miss the night time view, one of the most spectacular and romantic in the world.
Riding the Star Ferry: This is something that I first do when I get off work early, to reacquaint myself with the city and hop aboard the Star Ferry for one of the most dramatic and cheapest-5-minute boat rides in the world. You can’t even start reading your favourite book because it’s a short trip as you witness the wolrd’s busiest and earth’s most breathtaking skylines.
Taking a Tram: A doubledecker tram ride from one end of Hong Kong Island to the other and get the glimpsed of the local view of life in the crowded city as you pass skyscrapers, street markets, traditional Chinese shops, and department stores. It’s relatively cheap for a ride, but watch out at those people who pushes you when they start to get off these trams.
Central/ Mid-Levels Escalator: The world’s longest as it snakes its way uphill in a series of escalators. You can also hop off at one of 29 exits to enjoy a drink or meal at one of the many establishments along its link, or take it to the top for a 20-minute ride. I’ve always enjoy the bars around here, a place known mostly for white-skinned people. We call them here the “Gweilo’s“.
Partying Till Dawn at Lan Kwai Fong: It’s standing-room only at bars and pubs in Central’s most famous nightlife district, where the action spills out onto the street and continues till dawn -not to mention the red-light district in Wanchai where there are many girlie bars (I think no chocolate colored skin ever attempted to go in - Mama San never allow them, for some weird reason) & live bands - mostly pinoys, are very entertaining.
I should be taking “serious” pictures before letting you puke at my self-ass pictures.
Happy Weekend everyone!

Yeah. I wish I agree. Skyscrapers are awesome. I have yet to take a cool picture of those tall buildings at night from a hill.
Have a good weekend K!!!
Hi E, isn’t it fun to take pictures? On a funny note, I need the new canon. My canon’s batt easily died on me.
Thanks, happy week-end to you too.
the pics looked amazing and also speaking of dimsum I really miss those
Hi Charles, have you been here before? You can have a taste of the real good siopao & noodles around here. They are relatively cheap and you can even ‘eat the plate’.
hmmm. not quite the same here in Makati. for one thing, it’s too hot to go out and walk to take pictures. and the thought of a possible hold-up is bothersome.
lalo na sa Quezon City! hay.
Dez, I love taking pictures sa Manila kaso nga its not “safe” to do that. The last time I went there, I took pictures of Lechon Kawali, jeepneys & the spaghetti wires.
